dr mercola bakeware???

Thread Starter
anyone read dr mercola's latest on why not to use glass/stainless steel (i don't think he mentions cast-iron... interesting) where he is strongly promoting his own new product of ceramic bakeware? i almost want to dismiss it b/c of the promoting aspect but i guess there was the wise traditions critique of stainless steel too.... somehow i don't worry much about the glass exploding if we're careful w/ temperature changes. ay. so much to think about! what do y'all think?

to be honest I think the man has some good things to offer. actually some really good things. but sometimes i think his desire to sell things clouds his views, if that makes sense.

I know this, I wouldn't by HIS bakeware just because HE said it was healthier. I woudl want sme outside proof of this too... yk?

I don't really trust Mercola. He seems to be too sensationalized and always has a product to sell at the end of his articles. I feel fearmongered (is that a word?LOL) when I read his site.

Everything is an article about the horrors of something (or everything ) followed up with a line of don't worry because I have the answer for you and you can order it here! Grates on me in a bad way. I always feel like such a schmuck if I ever decide to pass on info he has on his site just because it's from him. I usually try and find it from another source and then pass it on.

yeah he def. goes for the hard sell... but in a laid back manner that makes it even more "hard sell" to me! lol
I think there are bigger fish to fry than to be worrying about cooking in a glass dish or a stainless steel pot. it's what goes into those that are obviously most important!

... if only he'd hire that oxy clean guy to sell his stuff. then I'd buy it for sure

yeah...i saw this...

i'm waiting for him to sell his own line of OXYGEN so I can stock up on it, pretty face mask, lightweight air tank and all. i mean, the air we breathe is horrible...i'm sure the oxygen he produces is the best and will help me live forever!!!!!!!!!!

sorry for the sarcasm, but this was the last straw for me and mercola. grrrr.

Yeah, I never read mercolas stuff anymore because it always seems like he is trying to sell something.
I am still turned off my his CLO stuff too.
I bet it is a good article, but I am fine using my glass bakeware and not knowing how bad it is. (unless someone can sum it up for me and make it sound convincing)

Thought you gals might get a kick out of this video.

I guess it's up to each individual to decide how they feel about this.

That's too funny. I saw it too. Convincing, but it's the whole vibe I get from his articles, not JUST the selling of stuff. I was thinking "did he see our thread?"LOL

That's exactly what I was thinking too! : I completely agree on the vibe thing as well. It all seems so slanted. Anytime someone says anything to the effect of the only answer to this 'problem' is to buy what I have and no one else in the solar system can help....you have to wonder....even it's just a tiny bit. I get a very "I am the smartest man alive" impression from most things from him. And really, for all I know, he is the smartest man alive, but then for crying out loud man, there's more important things you could do!

That was posted before his death.

He is not my primary source for information but I enjoy reading his articles and he does bring up interesting information, that mainstream health media does not talk about. I generally avoid the obvious articles about buying his products.

Pyrex. Cast iron. Stainless steel. And I do still have a couple old aluminum cookie sheets.

I feel compelled to chime in. I have bristled : at Dr. Mercola's advertisements for several years. My friend first suggested reading his information. I signed up for the newsletter, not realizing that DAILY (or so it seems) I'd receive an advertisement in my emailbox. I'd read the information with NO SOUND and scroll down to see what 'new and improved' version Mercola was hawking. And roll my eyes. I had a tough time believing the claims, due to the sales pitch.

However, we're looking at creating a whole foods for healing website and the technology costs are daunting. None-the-less, Mercola is nearly a Don Quixote fighting against mainstream "health" care, AMA party line, and Big Pharma. He is a lightening rod for frivolous lawsuits and legal harassment. I have no doubt the man is as rich as George Bush. But, he ain't no George Bush.

When I received the email this week, Why Do I Sell Products on the Site?, I watched and I realized the degree of scrutiny and heat Mercola brings upon himself. Who else is effectively challenging the mainstream "health" party line with 800,000 subscribers, DAILY, with the power of international internet communications? I'm sure that Monsanto, AMA, and Big Pharma are NOT sitting idly by, wishing him well.

With notoriety comes paparazzi, and the lawyers are the paparazzi. I can't imagine the research costs Mercola must have to incur to be *irrefutable* and above court challenge. Even here on MDC, no one is allowed to offer any "medical advice" or copy lengthy articles to substantiate their claims of health and wellness from natural products, due to legal concerns. Mercola's staff must research and produce their own legally defensible justification for recommending EVERY health alternative on his site, especially with his endorsement as a physician, against party line. MDs are held to a higher level of accountability by law.

Anyway, I'm a capitalist and I don't dismiss him because he's getting paid for the effort, risk, and investment to provide alternative health information to the masses. How many IRL physicians do you know who are providing alternative health information to improve people's health?

Now, have I bought anything from Dr. Mercola? But, I do believe that his research is informative, life changing, and offers an alternative to the mainstream "health" party line. THAT I can support with my own endorsement.

Just my $0.02
