My son came inside last night and said "Look, something amazing has happened to my applesauce!!!"
Meaning he left a tiny bit of applesauce in a bowl outside that morning ... and it turned into fruit leather by evening.
Wow.
Funny thing is I have "food dehydrator" on the list of things to get ... some day... and thus making fruit leather on the list of things to do... some day.
Never would have thought one day in the blazing hot sun and you get it for free. (Western PA is so humid, never thought it would even work!)
So tomorrow we are going to try applesauce and nectarines. I just plan to whir them in the blender... it's what we have on hand.
I also have a bunch of blue berries - but don't know how they will go as fruit leather!!! Also bananas and kiwi - I imagine the bananas would be ick but kiwi? Maybe?
Just wondering if anyone has any non-obvious but very tasty fruit leather ideas?
I know how to make it, just want some ideas for tasty goo I might not have thought of otherwise.
We made it at girl scout camp ages ago with apricots - just leaving it outside seems way easier. I will probably put some muslin over it so it won't be full of fly larvea or anything else nasty...
