Diapers For The First 4-8 Weeks?

So, we have a pretty well established stash in terms of OS diapers (pockets and fitteds) and then sized Fuzzi Bunz for nighttime. We also have a stash of KL 0s for the newborn stage but I am just not loving them this time around. DS2 is 1 week old and they just feel scratchy and... bleh. Anyway, I am looking to do something different, probably prefolds but I am unsure on what size to get. Our babies tend to be between 8 and 9 pounds, do I need to get the really small size ones or would infant be ok? I don't mind the bulk, but I just don't know if I need the 2 smallest size ones from GMD or if I can get away with less? Also, we only have medium FBs right now... when will smalls start fitting? We don't generally start using pockets still they stop pooping every 2 seconds... but should I get some XS and some S, or just S? Thanks!!!

I would be willing to bet you could skip the smaller size pf's and just use the infants if you don't mind folding down a little. Seems simpler to me to have less styles even if it means a little bulk.

I haven't used the FB smalls, but they say small starts at 7 lbs so I would think you don't need xs, small should be fine.

Yeah, I am not overly worried about the bulk... I mean, it isn't like my 2 week old is doing much that would be impeeded by a slightly bulky diaper!!

I started using infant prefolds at around 3 weeks. I do the jellyroll fold and then when I bring it between his legs I fold it out (not under) and snappy. It works really well. Now at 8 weeks I almost don't need to fold it over!
I remember using FB's with ds1 for the first 4 months I think. Then we switched up to mediums.

My five pound nine ounce DD was able to fit in the infant prefold with lots of folding and bulk, but she did fit.

I would go for the bulk of prefolds if it were me.

We used infant sized prefolds from birth (DS was 9lbs) and they fit fine under small covers.

We loved them (angelwing fold)

I, too, just used the infants. They fit fine.

Dd was 8 lbs 4 oz and didn't fit into her small FBs until 6 weeks. I had some XS FBs and was very happy to have those and got a lot of use out of them.
