Going to make the switch to CD

I want to switch to CD for my 6 week old DD. I tried CD with #1 when he was a newborn and it frustrated us so much that we quit. But now I cannot see throwing sooo many more diapers into the landfill or spending sooo much money over the next 2 years on sposies. DD is already over 13 lbs, do not need newborn size CD.

It needs to be easy, DH and I both work. It needs to fit (this is the problem I had with DS, he was so big the newborn diapers didn't fit and they all leaked).

I was thinking about the BumGenius AIO one size. The Aplix ones are on sale right now. Good choice? Pros and cons? Snaps better?

Any other suggestions?

The BumGenius work and are easy. Go ahead and try a few.

AIOs take time to dry and I think tend to smell funny. Pockets are also easy, but require stuffing. It's a trade off.

I tried a few different, buying from sites that offer free shipping because I bought $50 or less at a time. My favorite has been Nicki's diapers. (www.nickisdiapers.com)

The BumGenius organic one-size all-in-ones are a great diaper. The aplix is discontinued b/c people were unhappy with how the aplix performed over time. Though they are a deal right now at $19.95, over the long haul, you will be happier with the snaps. Another great option is the Gro Baby system - it is one-size and you snap out and replace the soaker, so it ends up being cheaper and takes up less space. I also really like the FuzziBunz One-Size and they sell so quickly, so other people must like them, too!!!!

I used BGs for my first and for a one size diaper they do not have a very high rise to fit a toddler, not mine anyway. We had to make the switch out of them for that reason. I had the pocket BGs; don't know if they are the same cut as the AIO. The pockets also didn't allow us enough room to triple stuff for night time and still give him a comfortable fit.

The HappyHeiny's one size gives more room to grow imo, the rise higher which made all the difference for my guy. Those are the ones we bought after he out grew the BGs. The HH fit until he was out of dipes and they were great for a big night time diaper too.

Are you looking for daycare friendly diapers, or doesn't matter?

There are so many options, I often recommend trying a few to see what you like/what fits before you invest a lot in one brand. Buying used at first can be a nice option to figure out what you like. My favorite pocket dipe is Tiny Tush - it has held up beautifully and fit well compared to all the other brands of pocket dipes we tried. Velcro and snaps are good for different reasons. With velcro (aplix) I feel I get a better fit, and still tend to use it for diaper covers. But snaps I feel are much more durable, so if you're not handy with a sewing machine (to replace velcro if needed), you might want to go with snaps.

To be really honest, prefolds are actually a great option for busy parents, too. At first, there is a learning curve, and that's where people can get frustrated, but once you get comfy with the folding style, they are very dependable. I think they are easy because washing is much less finicky (sometimes pocket diapers can cause hassles with stink or absorbancy probs because of the synthetic fabric inside). They are very forgiving. No folding or stuffing of any kind. You can just throw all the clean stuff in a laundry basket and pull out what you need when you need it. Plus pf's are the cheapest!

All that said, I actually like fitteds the best, because for us they hold runny poo the best, in combo with a good cover. It's two steps (so are prefolds) because you have to put on the diaper and the cover separately, but is still very convenient and dependable.

Good luck with your decision!

she will go to a babysitter, so ease of use is important. But mostly for us. We get very busy at times and we are bad about sorting and folding laundry. I don't want to be changing a diaper and searching for parts to the diaper.

I tried prefolds with my first and that is why we quit CD, they were a pain, they didn't hold enough liquid and DS would get his clothes all wet. I don't want to mess with them again.

I have big babies so I will check out the HappyHeinys one size also.

I just found these: http://www.smartipants.com and they are really reasonable for a one size dipe. They get good reviews at diaperpin also. I'm going to order a 3 pack and hope they work for us! I am torn between one size and sized dipes because I am thrifty, but I like a trim fit.
Right now we use prefolds but soon I will need more absorbancy and the stay dry innards for going longer between changes.

I used both the Happy Heinys and BG one size for my girls. Both are nice. I do like the HH microfleece lining inside, though that's just a personal preference over suedecloth.

I am going to try 1 bumgenius OS organic w/snaps and 1 gro baby set, is this enough to try and get a feel for them? Or should I get 2 of each? With the BG, will I also need more soaker pads when DD gets bigger/wets heavier?

You'll want to get 24 or more diapers, which means you have flexibility with laundry. I think I have more than 24 now and I can have a load in the laundry or on the line and have enough for a day or so. More lets me get to the laundry when I want to. but doing diaper laundry is strangely satisfying.
