You'd think I'd know....

... what real labour feels like after 5 natural births :

On Wednesday late afternoon I had some contractions, they were different from the Braxton Hicks, but nothing really bothersome at all... They increased in intensity during the evening, then I had a shower and it slowed down. Dh and I made love and went to bed around 11pm. I woke up from the contractions around 12:30 and they were 3 to 5 mins apart but not really intense, although very much there, KWIM.

We called the midwife around 1:30 just to give her a heads up. Told her that it was still very managable and she didn't need to rush, we will call her later. She decided that she would come and just check me out since I am known for delivering pretty quickly.

She arrived around 2:30, did an internal (at my request) and it turned out that I was only 2.5cm... Now I could have been 2.5 for the last 5 weeks, who knows.

Dh and I went for a long walk in the neighbourhood at 3am (it was actually lovely) but although the contractions picked up in regularity, they became less intense By the time we got home I knew it was going to stop and I asked her to go home.... She agreed with me that it looks like it isn't going anywhere!

I'm feeling really despondent! Since wednesday it is like everything in my body has slowed down, even the BH are barely existent..... Baby is also much quieter.

See, we tried it 5 times before and people might assume we should know.
Ironicaly, BECAUSE we have done it several times, our bodies are more prone to go into what seems like labor repeatedly before the big day. Oh, and if somebody tels me one ore time "These are false labor contractions. When the REAL thing starts you wil know" I will strangle them!!! :

blah. I can imagine. Every time I started pre-labour with DD I thought "This is it!" it was crampy and painful and went on for a few hours, and... nothing. Happened at least a dozen times over the last 3 weeks!

With DS I felt tightening but no pain, called my midwife and said "I think I'm having contractions, but I'm not sure I'm in labour, they're not painful" She asks "How far apart are they?" "... 2 minutes." "I'll be RIGHT OVER!"
He was born 3 hours later. Oy.

I had an episode of false labor on Wed. night too. The contractions were strong enough that they kept me up all night, but they were irregular. Then early Thurs. morning I had about 2 hours of regular, 8 min. apart contractions. DH started packing, my mom came over for DD, and I got in the shower - where they stopped cold turkey!! Beyond frustrating! I didn't realize how lucky I was to just have my water break last time.

something similar happened with my second labour! I thought I was having BH contractions because it wasnt painful, and voila I was 7cm dilated LOL.
