I found a great local source for eggs!

I'm so excited! The chickens roam free and eat bugs and when they get feed it is organic soy free, or so the lady says. LOL I will choose to believe her, b/c even the feed was conventional and contained soy, the eggs are still better than what I buy at the grocery store, right?

Anyway, I bought 2.5 dozen. The eggs are soooo pretty! The 18 pack had all different colors ranging from orange to green to blue and the yolks were such a deep orange. I fried up four of them in some organic pastured butter and it was so yummy.

And the best part...the eggs are only $2/dz! Yay! I also passed a house with a sign up for duck eggs for $5/dz, and I may try some just for kicks next payday.

Awesome! You'll know if she's telling the truth right away. Just look at the eggs inside. First off, they'll be harder to crack. Inside the eggs, the yolk will be dark orange in color and will be hard to break. I've mixed stuff up and realized that I still have a yolk intact! The whites will be very thick with very little "run" to them.

I have backyard chickens and it's taken me quite awhile to get used to them. When you boil them, use the oldest ones, because the freshest ones will be much harder to peel.

They were hard to crack! I thought it was just me. LOL Another weird thing I noticed was that the little tiny eggs from her little tiny chickens had yolks the same size as larger eggs but very little white.

Since buying pastured eggs, I am just AMAZED at the difference between these and store-bought 'organic' eggs. You can truly SEE and FEEL the difference, as you describe! It's very exciting! I think I'll go cook some up right now...
