Any tips for keeping deer out of the garden?

We haven't had a problem with it yet because the over-ripe cherry tree is dropping lots of goodies and keeping their attention, but I'm just thinking ahead to when our garden will be looking really yummy. Anybody have any tricks?

A tall fence and/or a dog.

Failing that, some things that work sometimes;

Pee of a meat eater sprinkled around the edges of the garden.

Human or pet hair around the garden. My grandma used to stuff the toes of old nylons with hair and hang them from stakes around in the garden.

Irish spring soap or other heavily scented soap, again with the nylons.

Flashy, noisy objects such as mobiles made of old tin pie plates that flash in the sun and clatter in the wind.

Sprinkler set with a motion detector so it goes off whenever something walks into the garden (remember to turn it off when you go out there)
