Fleece

I can not sew at all, but I think my MIL would be happy to make me a few covers. I would love to have 5 fleece covers maybe 2 heavier weight and 3 lighter.

I know everything says that Malden Mills is the way to go, but was reading an old mdc thread that had people who had good luck with regular joanns, or walmart fleece. Personally, I have had cheap fleece blankets that were washed millions of times and lasted forever without pilling, but I don't know a thing about the leak issue.

If you ordered malden mills where did you order it from? I also have no idea how much I would need. I am needing it for a small size (expecting baby in Nov) Generally the fabric is sold 60inXyard it looks like. How many covers could you get out of one yard? Or if you use 1 yard for a cover would there be enough left over for a changing pad or something?

What is the difference in these besides the price? Notice the one on fabric.com says it is 200 weight.

Also, could she use another type cover, such as a bummis for a pattern? I have only been able to find this free cover instruction and it doesn't have dimensions or size. Anyone used it?

One more probably stupid question, forgive me. Do you need special equipment to sew snaps? You can sew velcro with a regular machine, right?

Thanks a lot!

Old fleece blankets have worked wonderfully for me. I used a modified version of the RRP pattern for ours.

You can sew velcro on a sewing machine but you need different equipment for putting on snaps, either pliers or a press. Pliers are cheaper.

Oh wow thanks! You can really just use pliers, like the regular ones DH has in his toolbox? Great! I really want snaps because I worry about velcro rubs.

Were the blankets you used just random cheap ones or something nicer?

Oh and sorry but what is the RRP pattern?

Don't know much about fleece but I was told there are different types. If you can put a drop of water on the fabric and it stays beaded up, thats the one you want to use.

RRP = Rita's rump pocket pattern.

You can always do a pull on fleece cover. Katrina's Soaker pattern is popular, and its free. I have a cover/soaker I bought off Etsy.com that looks just like Katrina's pattern, I love it.

I've made liners for my diapers to wick moisture away using anti-pill fleece from Hancocks. It wasnt malden mills fleece but it worked for me.
