What do you use?

In reading about the harmful ingredients in shampoos, soaps and lotions, i'm left wondering what i should be using. I'm gonna start no-poo-ing, and trying acv on my oily face, but what do you use in place of body soap and lotion? I'd like to avoid the high-priced natural stuff and use what i have at home, but am having trouble finding the info i need. I've made natural baby bar soap--is that considered healthy or only better than what you'd buy in the store?

What do you use?

I wash my hair with baking soda and condition it with acv, wash my face with honey, and my daughter's hair with honey also. I wash the my feet and armpits with a mix of baking soda and brown sugar, and the rest of me with water. I use baking soda mixed with cornstarch for deodorant but am experimenting with the proportions to make it work. Hope that helps.

I personally have no issues with using soap and don't find them overall to be bad. But I make all of my own soap from scratch. If you don't like the idea of soap, I think sugar (dry skin) or Sea Salt (oily skin) mixed with a bit of Olive or other oils is a great way to wash.

For face I swear by the Oil cleansing method. For moisturizing I use pure butters like shea and cocoa butter mixed with oils like calendula infused olive. I use arrowroot powder for body powder.

Sadly I can not find a replacement that works for my hair, so I buy an inexpensive no detergent shampoo. I would love to find something better, but so far I have not been able to find anything that works for me

Where do you get your shea butter from, and should it be organic, raw, unrefined, etc?

I buy soap made, consciously, by a friend. The current bar I'm using is raw honey. I like soap, honestly, esp. for nether parts and armpits.

I was using my friend's hair soap and Liggets w/ a vinegar rinse, but there is just something that started not jiving, and my hair got all wacko...no-poo's also not been successful. My hair started drying out and being seriously unmanageable. I have fine, straight, long hair. I am now using Aubrey (and spending way too much) J.A.Y. shampoo w/ Blue Camomile conditioner. It is SUPER! My hair is back to normal!

For moistuizing, I use coconut oil...organic, by spectrum. I love it! I use it everywhere from face to toes. I have combination skin.
