wetbags and pail liners

Is it necessary to purchase these? Does everyone use these? What are cheaper alternatives? Is there something that can just be purchased at wal-mart?

I am sure there must be something at Wal-Mart that could work. The thing is, you need it to be waterproof. Maybe they have waterproof, leakproof bags in the camping section. The wet bag needs to be rather small so you can just shove it in the diaper bag. The diaper pail liner should be a bit bigger in order to hold a bunch of diapers so you don't need to wash as often.

Have fun shopping.

for the diaper bag i have used sandwich bags to hold clean wet wipes, and bigger grocery bags to hold dirty diapers. i prefer my real wetbags, but this has also worked in a pinch. i think they do sell wetbags in the camping section of walmart, as the last person suggested.

There are definitely cheaper alternatives to wet bags if you can't afford a wet bag -- but i would definitely recommend investing in a pail liner. Those are such a good investment and there isn't anything quite like that in a store. I highly recommend them to make things easier for you for storing wet diapers.
Hope this helps!

i could never figure out the point of a pail liner. i used a plastic diaper pail, washed about every two days, never had a problem with stink and didn't have to touch the diapers because i just dumped them straight into the washer. maybe i'm missing something but they seemed like a waste to me.

i did use a wetbag when out but before i was able to get one i just re-used a baggie.

I love my wetbags for going out. They hold stink in and wetness in, and don't get holes like grocery bags can... which is what I usually end up using when I forget to throw my clean wetbags bacck in the diaper bag!

For pail liners, I just sewed a simple cotton liner that I put in a garbage pail with lid and that works for us. If my washer were further from my "poopy pail", I would want a waterproof liner but considering one of our bathrooms is in the laundry room, I just take poopy diapers there and the pail is about 2 feet from the wash machine. Very convenient. In my "pee pail", which is in ds's room by the changing table, I also just have a plain cotton liner.

Thirsties just came out with a couple bags that are made from nylon instead of PUL, and they are way cheaper. I haven't seen them yet, but I'm sure they should work fine...

not a bad idea with the plastic diaper pail. I guess i just really liked having a pail liner to carry it out to the laundry which is in the garage. but i can see how your method could work too.

As far as pail liners, we definitely couldn't have lived without them for storage of wet diapers when we travelled with our diapers.

Thanks! Great advice. I think the pail liner would be a waste for me, too then. The baby will share a room with me and DH. That is where the changing station will be. Just a few steps to the laundry room.

What I was thinking was that I would need two if they had to be washed with the dipes and then air dried. I think I will risk getting a little poop on the inside of the pail and having to clean it while the dipes wash.

I'll invest the money on 2 cute wet bags instead. Gotta have two if one is dirty, right? I am excited cause I get to get girly prints this time. My
3rd child is going to be a GIRL in Nov! I have 2 boys.

I never found a pail liner necessary, but wetbags for my diaperbag were a must. I prefer the envelope or zippered styles for that.

We don't use a diaper pail, we just hook a large zipper wetbag onto the changing table or on a hook behind the door in the bathroom. I hate to wash my trashcan, I can't imagine washing a diaper pail. We live in a condo with no good outside wash area and I certainly won't do it in the tub. I just shake the diapers out of the bag into the wash and drop the bag in on top. We do use two large wetbags and two small diaper bag sized ones, so we don't have to wait while one is in the wash.

I also just use sandwich bags for the diaper bag and babysitters. I do love my pail liner for home though. It needs to be leak resistant, and ideally washable. I just throw mine in the wash with my dipes. It makes it tons easier.
