Are scads of ants in my garden going to have adverse effects? I have black ants and small ants taking over several of my beds...what to do?

They may eat any root veggies you have--carrots, radishes, potatoes. I've lost entire crops of radishes to sugar ants.

They've never seemed to do anything to above-ground veggies, unless the fruits fell to the ground.

Our yard is infested with ants, literally infested. I found this recipe for a natural ant killer. As soon as I have enough little containers I'm setting them out ASAP.

we have a TON of small biting black ants and all is well in the garden. Someone told me they can help with pollination.

I think I must have 3 dozen different species of ants. Some are damaging because they carry weed seeds into the beds. Others are damaging because they bring scale and aphids to my plants, and the scale and aphids do a lot of damage. Others don't seem to do much damage-the big fellas, they leave well enough alone but they're more likely to bite than the other ants, and I stumble on them everywhere!

I hope to hear they've come up with a good Bt type control to help me manage them better. For now, they've got the upper hand in my garden.

Jojo, I am so going to use that. I am sick to death of ants! They killed 4 of my tomato plants. Like, ate the roots or something so the stalks withered and fell over. I even tried bait to no avail (fallow ground now for at least one season ). I was starting to wonder if the only way I was going to get rid of them was to go out and squish each & every one of them.
