making the switch to wool, please help with questions!

i'm so excited to make this switch but i have a few ?'s for you wool lovers out there...
1) do you prefer wrap style or pf's with pull ons? i'm so over the red marks from wrap style covers and they just look uncomfortable but i would love to hear why you love what you use.

2) is wool a PITA to take care of? i'm all about no fuss cd'ing! the minute there's too many steps, the sposies start calling out to me (and i hate using them!).

3) how easy/hard would it be to make a few wool interlock covers for a beginner seamstress like me? it's SO much cheaper to buy the fabric and make them and since they're one piece, they don't look that hard. what am i looking for when shopping for interlock fabric? is there a tried and true pattern out there? in the winter i'm planning to knit some longies but for now i like this style...

they look easy . i also like the luxe style for trimness but they look a bit more difficult.

FWIW-my baby has deliciously chunky legs so that might make things easier/harder?

TIA for any info and thanks for reading!

I haven't cloth diapered for a few years, but with my dd I used nothing but wool and will never switch! I mostly had pull-on soakers like Aristocrats and have no complaints--there was never anything about them that seemed the slightest bit uncomfortable! We used them with snappi'd prefolds and with fitted. Worked great.

When dd was walking, I bought some wahm shorties and longies which I LOVE. dd always wears dresses, and these were so cute underneath! Obviously would work great with just a t-shirt too.

With this baby, I look forward to trying some wool wraps too, finding out if laying a folded diaper in a wrap really works or not, and finding out which I prefer. I know I love soakers, but I might love the wraps too!

Wool care: I don't find it hard at all. I'd have at least three covers to alternate throughout the day so that after a wet or dirty diaper the cover aired until the next change. Two would be enough if you never got poop on the covers, but if you do, that cover is out of commission until washed and dried. I never did spot washing, but plan to use some Sudz n Dudz products to spot wash so I don't have to wait overnight for the cover to dry! That was the only part of wool that sucked--the wait for it to dry. Hand washing was easy and fast, and only needed when poop got on them.

Sorry I have no sewing advice--someone will! Have fun with wool!

1) Pull ons! The wrap ones can and do still leave marks, so if ou are looking for something more comfortable for your lo, i would go with the soakers.

2) Nope, i only really washed my covers once a month or so. Obviously if there is poo on it then i wash it, but it really didnt happen that often.
To wash all i did was use baby shampoo (or wool wash) use room temp water, add the soap, and then let the covers soak in it for a few minutes, ring it out, and then rinse with water. Roll up in a towel, and air dry. Then spray with a liquid lanolin as needed. You can also take solid lanolin and add it to the shampoo in a little Tupperware with some water, microwave it untill the lanolin melts, and then shake it all together, and use that as the soap in the sink.

3) no it isnt hard at all! I just made my dd some fleece soakers to go over her trainer panties. Here is the pattern i used. Its really simple, and FREE! http://katrinassqs.blogspot.com/2007...r-pattern.html

And this is the first soaker i made

thanks ladies, keep em coming!

I just used regular fleece from joanns.

The fleece is no where as waterproof as wool. I would higly suggest that if you are on a budget go to the thrift store and buy some old wool sweaters.

i learned my lesson trying to make AIO's that i need to do a practice one first. so, i'm going to practice with fleece or an old sweater i have lying around and then go to good will or order some interlock .
