cheap, good flats?

I'm looking forward to trying flats with this baby, but don't want to buy the expensive flats.

Do regular old-fashioned birdseye type work well enough? Which are the best, and where's the best place to get em?

I've also been told that receiving blankets make great flats--are they better than the birdseye?

Is there some other kind that's good that's still in the $2 per range?

Thanks for tips!

I bought these and love them - washed them a few times with towels and they soften up nicely. http://nickisdiapers.com/catalog.php?category=609

I see that they are out of stock temporarily - but they are made by alltogetherdiaper company - so you could search.

They are just over a dollar each

They make great doublers and keep their square shape unlike my older ones from who knows where
They are 27x27 and fit a newborn cover - barely and I had my 3 year old model them to see how they worked snappied on him and they are great (used 2). They are super flexible because of the different folds you can do.

I used birdseye flats upon occasion and liked them. Flannel flats (receiving blankets!) worked ok for my daughter.
