Exploding teeth?

This is so weird. The last two teeth that my 10-year old daughter lost--one was last week, and the other was about 4 months ago--exploded of their own free will after they had been sitting around for about two days. I saw one of them do it--it was just a tooth sitting there on my dresser, then there was a light 'pop' sound, and the two halves of the tooth flew in opposite directions.

I'm sure this has something to do with the teeth drying out, but it seems so odd to me and I've never heard of it. I'm kind of concerned that it means there's something wrong with my daughter's teeth--she has already had 2 large cavities at age 10, and her dad has extremely bad teeth.

Has anyone else ever seen this phenomenon?

Uh-oh, nobody has replied...is this happening really so bizarre? Maybe I should call up our dentist and ask him about it.

I know all of my childhood teeth disintegrated in their box. Perhaps they exploded too. I figured they did it because I was a malnourished.

WOW that is strange. I still have my 12yo DS's baby teeth and they are all in one piece. I also recall my mom kept my baby teeth and when I saw them as an adult they atill looked much the same, just a bit yellowed. Have you tried googling for an answer - google is my best friend

Thanks Anne Marie. Yes, I did try googling this for sure, but I can't find a thing. Everything I type in just brings up stuff about tooth decay in general, not teeth coming apart after falling out!
