Anyone have personal experience with a natural/non-vaccinating pediatrican close to Pembroke Pines, Broward County?

I'm 6 months pregnant and I want to start interviewing peds now, but don't know where to start. Your help is much appreciated!

I've heard of Dr. Colon and Dr. Ryldand. Here's an old link to a similar thread: http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=136185

Great, thanks for the info!

UPDATE:

I'm going with Dr. Colon. She seems to be the only truly non-vax friendly pediatrican in Broward County. When my appt. day came I had a bad cold and called to reschedule. The receptionist said, "No problem, I'll just have the Dr. call you." She did so and answered all my questions and sounded like a great match for me! She said they should have a website up soon.

As far as I can tell, Dr. Rydland lives in Virginia and only visits S. FL occasionally. He also seems to be very big on pushing his own products.

I had an appt. with Pediatric Associates in Pembroke Pines. When I called to ask if I could do the prenatal consult on the phone, the receptionist acted like it was the oddest question she'd ever heard. I told her the other dr.'s office had no problem with it and she said, just a second. After 8 mins on hold I hung up.

I also had an appt. with Dr. Fang-Patrick in Miramar. I had heard she was non-vax friendly but on her website it says they are "pro shots." I went anway to compare and was told the Dr. wouldn't be in that day. I asked why they didn't call me since I had an appt. for that day and the receptionist said, "Yeah, someone should have called you." She suggested I wait to talk to the office manager since I was already there so I sat down to wait. The waiting room was very run down and didn't seem safe for kids. Half of the outlets were missing covers. There were huge racks on the walls with nothing but a few drug company brochures in them. I ended up leaving because nothing felt right to me!

I know I'm ranting, but I hope this info helps someone. : )

Hi! I'm glad someone could use this info. Here's her contact info:
Dr. Linda Colon
9750 NW 33rd Street, Suite 220
Coral Springs,FL 33065
954-752-8446

A good friend of mine has a one year old who doesn't vaccinate and has been happy with her so far. On the phone Dr. Colon told me she gave birth to two babies at home, like I plan to do. As far as vaccines go, she said she does recommend Hib, Pertussis and Meningococcal on a delayed schedule. I still have to do research on that. She told me to call after my baby is born and schedule an appt.

Update 6/6/10:
I took DD to Dr. Colon for her well baby visits for the first 5 months. It was 45 mins away from our home, but I continued to go because I felt that having a "holistic" ped. was important. Well, after a few visits the dr. started to pressure me into doing vaccines and supplementing with formula, which I wasn't interested in. When I took my dd in for a rash I realized that the only thing holistic was the name of the practice! I think Dr. Colon is a good, typical doctor, but not worth the long drive and not really into natural health as far as I could tell.

I took dd to Pediatric Associates to establish care in case of emergency, but dh and I have realized that for minor issues we can trust ourselves to care for her better.

Hi...

I'm new to Mothering and to Broward County.

I've been searching and searching for a natural approach to my children's health.  My son is 3 y/o and not vaccinated and every time I take him to any dr they want him to "catch up" by administering like 10 at a time, lol.... so I've had to walk out several times, and these dr always make me feel very guilty.  But apparently there aren't many that take a natural approach.  I would love to hear some more recent experiences with Dr Colon, as it looks like I'll be taking my kids there for a check up.

My daughter is 3mo and we went off the list from the birth center and Dr Colon was one of the recommended so we didn't like our first pedi (she harassed us about vaccines, so switched to Colon) First off, I liked Colon better than our first pedi, so that's really the only reason we stuck with Colon but have only seen her 2 or 3 times. So I never got the initial wow factor from her, she was just another pedi to me, but she didn't harass us like the first one so she was okay in my book, she left it as someone else said 'in our court'. We developed thrush from the beginning of breast feeding, my mw suggested gentian violet, as its messy i'd much rather use that, than a prescribed medicine.. I told Colon I was using gentian violet and started it the day before, she then of course wrote me an RX, and told me not to use the gentian violet anymore. That was the first visit. Then last appointment she seemed very rushy, and I had told her I think Emma is teething(3mo) I said she's been gnawing her fingers/hands like crazy, always wanting to bite on mine, shes drooling a lot, way more fussy than usual, not to mention the little white bumps coming out of her gum (was one, now two) So, she quickly looks in her mouth and said there's nothing, I don't see any teething (& when it gets really bad for our baby we use the Hydland's teething Gel, and guess what she's almost instantly better, yet shes not teething? ANd when she bites (not sucks) our fingers or hers, shes fine again. Then, this was third strike shes out, this frustrated me more than anything.. So Dr Colon had told us since Emma is EBF that we should give her Vit D3 supp so I have been reading up on it, and it said it helps with your mood so Friday she was suuuuuper fussy, never heard her so fussy, and I said to husband to open the box for me I was going to start her vitamins today, and also in hopes that it would somehow help her mood (i was very irritable and frustrated at this point from a few things) So I started to read the bottle and could have SWORN it says give a dropper full, no. After she gags I reread the bottle it says DROP full :'( At this point I FREAK out, DH and I both! DH called the manufacturer and I call Dr Colons office its about 4:45-4:50pm on a Friday mind you, I ask if Dr Colon is in, and if so it's an emergency and I'd really like to speak with her, and that I do not mind holding. The receptionist says one moment. Comes back and says shes in with her last patient then she'll make call backs. So I leave my name, number, and message with the receptionist. An hour and a half to TWO HOURS later...... a VOICEMAIL that says this is Dr Colon if you're still having an emergency please call the office Monday Thank you Good bye. In a rushed message......!!!!!!!! I was INFURIATED! I said did she really just say that!!! I explain to my DH how what about " hello this is Dr Colon, I heard about your emergency i'm so sorry I missed you, If you still need me my CELLPHONE number, or other contact number is........." OR another call or two back to make sure Emma was okay..... Funny thing, in our first initial visit she had mentioned when we call after ours and I specifically remember her saying this, because its something very important to me. She said and if you need to contact the office after hours you will get directed to myself or dr Persuittis phone and we can help you. What happened to those words? This has caused me to look for yet again another holistic pediatrician. We just moved to South Florida before our baby was born, and i'm not having any luck finding a holistic pedi that actually takes insurance. Most just say they use a super bill. uhhhh! If anyone knows of any good holistic pedis pleaasee let us know! We don't mind driving an hour or so. We had to drive an hour to the birth center, so a pedi that's far and really good, I don't mind driving for!

I had no problems with Dr. Hila Gilberd at Pediatric Associates in Pembroke Pines.  As long as she knew we were informed and sure of our decisions she was willing to follow whatever vax schedule we wanted.

Did you ever find a good holistic ped? I went to Dr. Colon last month for the first time when my son (born nov 2010) had a persistent skin issue with mrsa in a sore on his p. Our previous ped mis-diagnosed the issue twice and I had been looking for a new dr. We have an appt to return to Dr. Colon for a well visit, however after reading these negative reviews I am wondering if there is another hol ped in the area (we live in east ft laud). Any luck finding a good one? Thanks for your help!

Oh and Dr. Punger is a family doctor that is in Ft. Pierce and she is the only one I would see if I lived in that area..  She is amazing! She also wrote; Permission to mother and has a blog as well. She believes in natural ways...

If you are still looking for someone, then she would be your best fit.. She is amazing..  We have consulted with her, been amazed at her recommendations, insight and just everything, but we are still looking for someone in Palm Beach County and have had no luck!
