CD Rashes, Stripping to Nothing...Bio-Kleen?

I have a variety of CDs from DS. They are most always washed in Charlie's Powder and a few have gotten washed in Tide once or twice. DD gets a rash of teeny, tiny red bumps when we use cloth. We switched over to Seventh Gen. disposables and the rash goes away, except for maybe 10 or so of those teeny tiny bumps. We also EC, for the record, and change as soon as humanly possible.

I'm tending to think it's an irritation from the urine/soap combo, if that's possible. She doesn't get a rash anywhere else, except occasional similar bumps on her cheeks which might be baby acne, or might be related. ??

Anyway, I bought some Bio-Kleen Cold Water formula (we have HD washer) and don't know how to get out all of the residue to start fresh. We have a wild mix of prefolds, fitteds and AIOs with both polar fleece and cloth. We don't have any bamboo or hemp that I know of...just cotton and polar fleece.

Any help would be great. I HATE the sposies. :

There are stories out there of people getting rashes and even chemical burns from Charlies. I did not experience this while using it, but the stories are out there...

I'm sorry to say this, but Biokleen was horrible for us. I was using that exact formula, and after a few weeks, we had bad stink and poor absorbancy.

I've now switched to Country Save, which I am really happy with so far. I'm considering trying Allen's, too, which is Michigan made, I think - so I can support a local company. : )

I hope you get the rash figured out!!!

btw, rashes like that can sometimes come from not rinsing enough. Is that possible? What's you're normal wash routine? fwiw, I also think that hot rinses are waaaaay more effective than cold ones for getting detergent out.

Good luck!!

Do you mean HE washer? As in front loader?
If so, this may not apply as I have a top loader. But we also had stink w/ biokleen. Not saying you will, but we did. Try stripping the diapers. Very hot water, one teeny tiny drop of Dawn, tons of rinses. Before you do this, strip your machine. PUt a load of towels in, some vinegar or bleach if you are inclined, and do a few washes. This, in theory, gets the remainder of the other detergent out of your washer. Use only your new diaper detergent for all of your laundry from now on.
Could her little bumps be from teething? Do you use covers? If so, I would recommend wool so her bootie can breathe. DD is prone to diaper rash and I can't use pul. I would imagine though, if you ec, she is diaper free or w/o a cover a lot of the time you are home.

Yes, I meant HE. Sorry. Always NAK, two broken fingers and was posting from my iPhone, LOL.

I don't think it's a teething rash, as it started almost as soon as she was born and I fought it for a while before switching to sposies. I used covers only when away from home or at night, then it's mostly wool. Yes, she's diaper free or coverless almost all of the time we're home.

My washer is doing a cleaning cycle right now, bleach and Dawn, no towels, as that's how it specifies it be done.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to return the Bio-Kleen. Read too many horror stories. I'm going to strip everything as soon as my washer's done and then see how it goes with her. I hope I can find a detergent that will work for us. I have so much going on that researching laundry soap is just not something I'm interested in right now.

Thanks for the info about the extra rinsing, OurGift. I'll try that too and see what happens. I know some of my linens seemed like they had detergent in them still.

It sounds like my normal wash routine may also be the problem:
Dry pail. (Or sometimes a wet pail with one scoop of Charlie's in the bottom.)
Throw dipes/wipes in washer, if using wet pail, water went in too.
One scoop of Charlie's. (None if I did wet pail.)
Used "Normal" wash, Hot or warm wash, cold rinse.
No pre rinse, no extra rinses.
Line dry or dryer.
