Who's nursing?? - Page 6

My endocrinologist told me I had to wean ASAP but backed off when I told her my ob/gyn was fine with it. (I didn't actually ask my ob/gyn, but we talked about it a lot last pregnancy, when I was nursing DS1, and I can't imagine her opinion changed from that pregnancy to this one.) Just like last time, my milk mostly dried up already and I am going crazy from how often/long my los want to nurse. DS1 (32 months) explained to me that "You used to have a lot of lots of milk in your bist-es but now you only have a lot of little bits of milk so I have to nurse more to get it" and DS2 (18 months) nodded vigorously in agreement. So I guess they noticed! But I definitely don't want to be nurisng them when this one comes. I know some people find that tandem-ing makes things easier, but I am positive that DS1's intense need to nurse actually made things a lot harder when DS2 was born. I don't want to wean them too dramatically, but I don't want them to associate weaning with the baby either, so I have a little time to play with. So far we've been working on not nursing every ten minutes...sigh.

Has anyone started experiencing super painful let-down since they got pregnant? When DS was born is was pretty bad, then for the longest time I didn't feel anything, and the last few weeks it has been excrutiating.

Those of you who have nursed through a pregnancy before....did you have cramping when you nursed? I am going to try to get down to only nursing her to sleep at night and see if that helps.

Not normally. I WOULD get them sometimes when I was dehydrated. You really have to be downing the water like a crazy woman.

Yes! I had cramps, while nursing or not, if I was not drinking enough water.

I am currently nursing my 18month old and he'll be just over 2 when new baby gets here. I don't imagine he'll "wean" himself by then...but I feel the urge to cut him back a little now. I had an over-sensory "freak out" the other night...I just needed to put him down and lay in bed alone for a few minutes. It was SO weird. My toes were curling I was SO uncomfortable nursing him!!!

I don't want to wean him off, but a cut-back would be a relief since I am SO tired this time around. I don't know what would happen if I was nursing a newborn AND still nursing him through the night! I don't think I want that...and I certainly won't be able to do it comfortably right after birth even if everything goes the way it did the first time.

Demeter my ds is about the same age and we just switched from nursing on demand to nursing at specific times (before nap time and after. before bed and after, and when he gets hurt and asks) and its working so well!!! We just tell him, "all done nursing" if he asks outside of those time and he never even blinks an eye. He's down to nursing only 2 times most days!!!

I'm not sure I can possibly eat 3400 calories a day! That might explain why I've been SOOO hungry lately, though. It does say that your caloric needs for the pregnancy don't increase until after the first trimester, which I'd read at LLL.org, too. Interesting. All of the clients I've ever had who nursed through pregnancy said they felt like all they did was eat all.day.long. I guess that's where I'm headed, too, since Silas is only 10 months (tomorrow!) and we won't be weanting any time soon!
Hi - I think we were in the same DDC last time as well. My son is 10 months old and not at all ready to wean. I'm excited to be pregnant again, but a little nervous about how to handle nursing and bed sharing with two little ones.

YES! Let down hurts like crazy now. I am also leaking from one side when he nurses rom the other. He is nursing a ton too. He was my boob parasite all day today.

hi! joining the conversation....

DD is 23 months. And a boob-a-holic!! I am trying to get her to only before and after night and nap. I would REALLY love to night-wean. But DH wants her out of our bed. Night nursing is the only thing keeping her there. And I want her to stay in bed with us.

My issue is nipple pain. BAD!!!! I can't sleep when she night-nurses. And it is pretty constant from about 3 ish to whenever we get up.

I can't remember if this has been mentioned before in this thread or not, but the book Adventures in Tandem Nursing is an AWESOME book. It has pretty much everything you could want to know about nursing during pregnancy and beyond. I highly recommmend reading it if you haven't already.

So, aside from reducing nursing, what can I do to make the nursing-induced BH cxns STOP!? They're driving me nuts.
