My DD is wanting to nurse non stop. It wasn't a month ago I was posting that I was worried about her weaning and dropping so many nursings. BOY did I jinx myself! My nipples are killing me. I am thinking about going to an LLL meeting so I can maybe meet someone who has nursed while pregnant/tandom nursed. Even though the research shows that it is OK, I still worry that I am hurting the baby somehow. Sometimes I get a dull pain in my lower left side stomach after nursing.

Still nursing a 3.25 year old. I am actually trying to nurse a little less, but don't see totally stopping, I like the immunity it provides him too much, and he still loves nursing. I have told him to leave a little for the baby though. I told him the baby nurses from the inside.

I'm still nursing my 15 month old.
Never really had any plans as far as how long I would nurse him but now that I'm pregnant again I've suddenly become bothered by it
My nipples feel like they're going to bleed when he nurses. It's just so irritating!!!!!!
I also get a little crampy sometimes while he's nursing and that scares me.
I feel like I'm depriving the new baby of nutrients. I'm super self conscious about whether or not I'm getting the proper nutrition to support this.
Granted, I don't know much about nursing while pregnant.
I need to do some research here.
I do go to LLL meetings. I actually just started right before finding out I was pregnant. Something must have been telling me I was going to need the extra support and education
Does this nipple pain get better? Please tell me it gets better, and sooooon!!!

I finally broke down and called my doctor and lacatation consultant about my cramping while breastfeeding. The Doctor says to wean as soon as possible, at the very latest by 20 weeks. The lacatation consultant says that not everyone listens to doctors and that maybe we could cut down of the number of nursings and see how I feel. I don't want to wean DD #1, but I really don't want to hurt my unborn D? #2!!!! Now I really don't know what to do other than cry!!!!!!!

Glad to know I'm not the only one with an older nursling!

Quick post. Nursing my 17 month old. I'd like to start night weening next month, he wakes at 4 almost every morning and is on the boob till almost 8. I fall back asleep, but I would really like a few good nights sleep before this LO makes his/her debut!

I love that on MDC, an 18 month old nursling is considered "young". :

I'm sorry you're having a hard time with this. I'd probably see how cutting back on nursing feels and go from there. I know it'd be hard to just stop nursing totally for both of you, so I hope that helps. *hugs*

I still need to go introduce myself, but my 2.5yo dd is still nursing and allergic/intolerant to a bunch of stuff. I actually just started a thread in allergies about prenatal nutrition to try and avoid an allergic LO, some of you may find interesting!

Me, too!

I am nursing my 18 month old DS and my 3 1/4 year old DD. I obviously nursed my 3 1/4 year old through my second pregnancy. I got the "You'll deprive the baby of nutrients!" comment a lot, though not from a doctor because I wasn't seeing a doctor (home birth with midwife). My second baby was born 1 1/2 pounds and 2 inches bigger than my first baby, so he definitely wasn't getting robbed of nutrients!

I am trying to slowly decrease my nursing sessions with DD, because I really don't want to be triandom nursing when this bay comes. It was hard enough tandem nursing, though I will do it again if my DS is still nursing when baby comes, but to be nursing all three of my children just seems overwhelming to me right now.

I just went through Dr. Jay Gordon's night weaning plan with my 18 month old. I have basically been getting up multiple times through the night since my first child was born, and I just needed to be able to sleep some before the baby arrives (plus I absolutely refuse to be nursing an older child and a newborn during the night, I did the same thing when I was pregnant with DS and DD was 18 months old). It is the most gentle way I have read, and DS did really well with it. He protested, of course, and there were a few really difficult nights (I stayed with him all throughout the process, never leaving him alone to cry). Now I am able to nurse him before sleep, lay him down while really drowsy but still awake, kiss and cuddle him a few minutes while telling him goodnight, and leave the room. Most nights he doesn't truly wake up (he does wake and move around, but not to the point that I need to go in there) until about 6:30. This is not technically "child led weaning" because I initiated the night weaning, but it is more for my survival. And my DD is still nursing at 3 1/4 when I night weaned her at 18 months, so it didn't adversely affect her day nursing (thought she did still wake up through the night after night weaning up until after DS was born, at which point she had to get herself back to sleep because I was with the new baby and DH was working night shift; those were hard nights:yawning.

I'm drinking Mother's Milk tea right now because I'm afraid I'm losing my milk. I've always been a prodigious producer, but lately I feel like I'm hardly producing any. DS wants to nurse a LOT recently, but he's mostly just chewing, which is super uncomfortable. My boobs aren't getting heavy between feedings, either, which is unusual for me. Yikes. I don't want to wean him at 20 months! I'd like to at least make two years. This is the first bf supply challenge I've had.

Hi All!

I'm nursing DS, 15 months, and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. As long as it works for everyone we'll tandem nurse once the new babe comes along.

Your body takes care of the gestating baby before the nursing baby. Don't worry about hurting them! I also had bigger babies when I nursed through my pregnancies. Ds1 (first born) was my smallest by far.

So how is everybody doing? My girls are both nursing just like normal, my milk hasn't seemed to change one bit (still hoping it'll be like last time! Though I'm curious as to how early I'll change to colostrum this time...), and I'm not sore at all or anything. Although, I have thrush, so that makes up for it. Geez...not sure why I'm struggling with candida so much over the last 6 months or so (I battled thrush for 10 weeks earlier this year). We have all taken a great probiotic every day for years, and even when I cut out sugar/carbs, it just seems to always "just barely" stick around waiting to come back full force. *sigh*

1babysmom - I battled thrush with both of my kids for many weeks from towards the end of last year through the beginning of this year, too. I don't know what triggered it, but it was the same as you describe. I did rounds and rounds of Gentian Violet (I even had to do some right before Christmas, so both of my kids had purple mouths during Christmas). The only thing that I can figure finally cleared it up was that we (all 3 of us) were eating grapefruit every morning for breakfast. After a while it just finally cleared up and never came back. My kids both LOVE grapefruit. If you can stomach it and your kids like it, maybe you can try that (I mean, we ate it every morning for probably several months)

I've been picking back up on my "thrush killing regimen" from last time (it's what finally got rid of it) and it actually includes GSE (topically and orally), and it definitely helps!! I'm not doing GV this time, and the other thing I actually can't do is Olive Leaf (which I think really helped last time but isn't "supposed" to be used during pregnancy), but I'm hoping the GSE, garlic, increased probiotics, a B-complex will help.

I'm really struggling because my nipples hurt so much. I'm working on night weaning I've decided and have been successful at replacing every other nursing session with cuddling, so we're down to nursing 3 times at night. I'm hoping that weaning at night will help make nursing during the day a little easier. But I also feel bad about night weaning her at such a young age too, sigh.
