We found a fern growing in the lilies so I dug it up and put it in a hanging planter but, I have no idea what kind it is. We are in the North East if that helps. All of my searching has yeilded no accurate results.

My first thought was about the oak leaf similarity, so how about this, a variety of Oak Leaf Fern?

However, that appears to be more suitable as a houseplant in your climate. Were the lilies new this year? Has this plant been in your garden over a winter? Interesting...

I have no idea what it is called, but I've seen it growing on my grandpa's land in northern Michigan, too, and have always admired it. I hope you get an answer!

We just moved in 3 months ago and the lilies have been there a while, I'd say around 4-5 years? The fern was found around a different kind but, the other kind was in the neighbors yard (along the dividing fence). Both fern types are fairly little so they haven't been there long. Maybe a neighborhood cat brought spores on it's fur?

I just did a quick search and think I found it, Sensitive (Bead Fern) Onoclea sensibilis

What do you think, a match?

Yes, I think you found it! No matter what it may turn out to be, it's pretty.
