We are just getting settled in at home. Graysen is 4 days old now and she is such a joy. She is nursing every 2-3 hours around the clock, but has also been cluster feeding in the early evening and from around 10pm-2am. We have her 1 week check with her doctor on Thursday since he was on vacation when she was born and he wants to look her over and do a weight check. I'm hoping that she is at least back to her birth weight by then, so we shall see.

I had my 36 week appointment last night. I was tested for GBS...should get the results of that sometime this week or at my next appointment. Turns out their treatment for GBS is hibiclens squirts during labor, not IV antibiotics, so I feel ok with it should I get a positive result.

They also checked my cervix. I honestly don't mind that they did it, I just didn't want to know how dilated/effaced I am (I really don't want to know my dilation until I'm ready to push, honestly), so when the midwife and apprentice midwife started talking about it, they told me to stick my fingers in my ears. I thought that was kinda funny. Anyway...verdict is: "You don't need evening primrose oil (they usually have women use it after 36 weeks). The baby is very low." I'm thinking that means I probably won't go postdates.

What do you guys think?

Yay for you, Alicewyf Hopefully that also means a quick labor, since it appears that your cervix is very favorable!

I keep getting the feeling that labor is imminent, but it keeps not happening I did figure out that when DD nurses on the left, nothing happens (ctx wise) but if she nurses on the right, it's pretty much constant contractions! So, she's going to get the right side a lot today She doesn't care, and there's barely any milk anyway, so I'm not worried about switching it up too often.

DH and I still don't have names for this LO...anyone else? We keep talking about it, and we'll both agree on a name that we "really like" ~ then I add it to the list and DH ranks it low! He admitted that he is just trying to be supportive of what I like...but half the names are ones that HE suggested! Our latest addition (and deletion ) is Max. He has mentioned this name before and now it's grown on me, but he gave it a 2 (out of 5)! That would be fine, except he's the one who brought it up...again! He's stuck on wanting to name the baby "Jad". It's not that I really really hate that name...it's actually starting to grow on me...but I think it's a little too out there for me :P

ETA: Anyone know of full-names that have Max as a nickname? I'm not a huge fan of Maxwell, Maximus, Maximo, or Maximillian. I saw Maxton yesterday which I don't hate...and DH's name is Michael so I said we could name the baby Michael and call it Max...but I don't think that Max is really a nickname for Michael

We have a list of 4 names that we like: Oliver, Jasper, Xavier, and Griffin. I like Oliver the best, DH likes Jasper the best, and Xavier and Griffin are there because they are the only other 2 names we like enough in case either of the first 2 don't fit.

I have 2 aquaintances that have boys named Oliver and Jasper already, which shouldn't bother me, but it does a little. My MIL and mom dislike Jasper the most, but DH likes it the most and it's been like pulling teeth this time to get him to agree on any name.

Naming Sebastian was so easy... we knew he was Sebastian as soon as we found out he was a boy. So it's hard for me that this baby doesn't have a name yet.

We have a few names we like, but have not really made up our minds.

Contracting and cramping all day.
I am very excited that everyday I get more contrax than the day before and they are getting more painful!!

I'm starting to get crampy ctx as well. Kind of feel them in my chest, as well, hard to explain, like a weight on my chest? But crampy way down low? Its very wierd. I didn't go into labor on my own with #1 and am excited to see what happens!!

As a side note, Florida transplant is totally not digging the 64 degree weather outside right now. I should be wallowing my beach ball bellied self in the POOL not thinking about baking BREAD to warm it up in here. grrr... Can't get used to Indiana. (my 2nd summer here. The 29 previous summers were in FL. 28? whatever...brain ooze...)

Wondering how stupid it would be for me to go to IKEA this Sun? It is 2hr 15min away, and I will be very nearly 38wks. We went this past Friday to get dd new bedroom furniture - new ds will get her old dresser and crib/toddler bed - but of course, ther first time EVER we have a problem- and the important piece we buy- the dresser- has several damaged parts.

Still no names here, either! That's one benefit of a homebirth, I figure...no rush to name the baby!

I'm 38.2 weeks. I've had some crampy/period-like feelings off and on most afternoons and nights lately, but I know baby could still have a few more weeks in there.

I had my mother blessing this past weekend, and it was very sweet. I'm just thrilled that July is here and we'll be meeting our babies soon enough!!!

Thank you again for all the well wishes! They are much needed. I have to go FedEx more papers to my lawyer this morning.

I am heading to my chiro/cranial sacral therapist this morning and hopefully that will get the baby and me in alignment for the pending birth. My lower back is achy and i've been getting random pinched nerve pain running down my leg whenever the baby gets into a certain position. So hopefully this appt will help!

I keep getting my house all clean just in case i go into labor and i have to admit i am getting sick of doing it. I make sure everything looks nice before i head to bed in case i wake up in labor and then i wake up and clean again just in case. I know i won't want to clean right after she is born and not having a partner means it is all up to me to keep the kids fed and the house clean. I stocked up on groceries over the weekend but they are dwindling already and still no baby. At least now i know she will be here for sure in the next few weeks.

There's only one name on our list that has kind of stuck more than the others. Most everyone likes it. Now if only I could get people to agree on the last name.

Today I go in to have my blood pressure checked again, and I get to submit a 24 hour urine catch (that's been soooo much fun [/sarcasm]). Hopefully that'll come back fine. I did have some dizziness/headaches yesterday, but that just might be paranoia. I'm disobeying the modified bed rest rules -- I just can't stand laying around while my nesting urge is going full-blast. My bags are mostly packed and will be thrown in the trunk of my car, just in case. I felt really unprepared the other day, so this will help.

Yes, I always feel real contractions on my chest too.

The chest part for me is feeling a pressure and then my heart beating faster during the contractions.

My heart speeds up sometimes during what I think are still BH ctx. It makes me a bit short of breath too. Glad to see I'm not the only one.

I have been getting BH's with the chest tightening/heart racing feeling too- when I take my pulse during them it is usually almost 100bpm! I have also been getting BH contrax randomly, instead of just when I am active, and they feel different. This is all very exciting!

Tomorrow should be my last day at school/work.: My advisor/boss just tried to hand me another project today but since my paychecks ended as of yesterday, I have no idea what he is thinking- hello baby coming soon? I am a bit sad of leaving my professional life behind for awhile after struggling through years of intensive grad school, but I think I am just experiencing a strange moment of clarity because I haven't cared at all until now.

I still have a lot to get ready but DH is finally getting on board. Once I am home full time I will be able to finish a lot of projects and even more naps . Maybe once these are done and I am bored I will feel mentally ready for the baby. I am still a little freaked out seeing all the July mamas with babies because I know that I will be soon- AHHHHHH! WTH will I do with a baby?!@%&?!?

I get freaked out with all the July babies coming too. I do not feel ready yet. I need a few more days. And we don't have a girl name yet. We say we are going to talk about it but don't seem to have the time, we are still getting other stuff done. I am finding it hard this time to find any time to focus on baby with 2 other kids to take care of.

Pentamom, I am glad you are taking the time you deserve. I can totally relate to an advisor giving you one more project before baby comes. My post-doc advisor had me come in a few weeks after DD1 was born (while on maternity leave) to help someone do an experiment that HAD to be done...they HAD to get the paper out soon. 6 yrs later and the paper is still not published but I had to work those couple days!

In 24 hours I've gone from I think it's going to be awhile....to I'm done. I didn't sleep well last night at all, but that's not new. I had an dr appt today, and i'm just kinda crabby about it. I had an u/s last week that shows the baby as quite large, and the u/s adjusted my due date to the 6th (yeah right). My dr today said she doesn't induce for "large" babies- which makes me happy, because that's what she SHOULD say. But then she goes and say she may order another ultrasound next week. WTH? Can any of you think of a reason for this? Especially if we already know the baby is big- and my ds was 9 lbs 10 oz at 39 weeks. Is there another benefit to yet another ultrasound?

She also did a check today, and my cervix is anterior, soft, and starting to dialate, so at least that's some good news. I've been 50% effaced for 2 weeks now.

Overall, I think I'm just crabby today. I think I wanted her to say, Hey, you're 4cm and it looks like you could go at any time! Grrrrrrr.

Did we have the same advisor?? He wants me to come back to manage the lab one week pp!! Fortunately no expts to help with, but if there was....and yes, we are backed up about 5 papers that just had to get out before I delivered. Zero have gotten done. Now I am only focusing on two to finish by the end of the year- a little more realistic y'know?

Oh, and we have no names for either sex! I guess we are counting on it popping into our heads when we meet LO.

learnlovebe- do you feel comfortable refusing the u/s? My OB wanted one for the hell of it and fortunately was OK when I said no. I don't see their reasoning in your case- you obviously can handle a big baby. FWIW, you could be 4cm soon and have the baby anytime so hang in there!

THe chiropractor was so great today, the baby is really low now. Everyone is commenting that i look like i'm about the give birth, you know that look women get on their face right before birth? I requested an internal since i'm 40 weeks and that gives me the 2 week leeway before induction talk. I am 3cm and baby is very low. So hopefully in the next few days there will be a baby!
