a tale of two slings!

I just did something a little funny in the babywearing department and thought I'd share:

I have a two month old and right now I almost exclusively use my little star pouch sling. This is not so much by choice, but because it's the only sling I can dependably put him down in after he falls asleep (other than the ring sling but i've never been comfortable in a ring sling with anything other than a hip carry, for some reason). I could easily jiggle out of our cuddlywrap or Ergo with my first while he was sleeping, but this one will wake up right away being put down in anything but the pouch.

Anyways, my back/shoulders are getting stronger but I still find a pouch sling the most uncomfortable out of any of the other carriers I use. I'm babysitting three kids tonight (and still online! whoo!) and didn't want to risk waking him up even putting him down in the pouch sling and was worrying about how sore my shoulder was going to get. And then I had a brilliant idea!

I got out my old ring sling and wore it on the other shoulder, dropping his bum, pouch sling and all, into the ring sling's pouch. Now I can put as much of his weight as I want on the ring sling shoulder, giving my other one a break or evenly distributing it between the two. Obviously if I could do this whole sling purchasing thing over again I'd get myself a blue celery, but right now my night is now looking a lot better, even if I do look a little silly!

Necessity is the mother of invention right? I think you have a great idea!

Nice thinking!

And terribly corny side-note: I saw your topic, and said to myself, "it was the best of slings, it was the worst of slings." My inner bookworm apparently broke out of its cage!
