What do you use for a diaper pail?

Thread Starter
I am expecting my 2nd babe in 3 weeks and am new to cloth diapering. I am still having problems deciding what to use for a diaper pail. I plan to have a dry pail (that I know) however, what do you experienced mamas use for your pails/wet bags etc? Do you use just a plain old garbage can? A special diaper pail? Wet bag?

Don't know if it matters but I will be EBF'ing and using mostly prefolds and wool covers.

Thanks so much for your help!

We use a trash can with a step on it to open with a bummis bag in for a liner.

i dont use wool covers. i do use a regular garbage can with a lid. i dont own any wet bags but would love to own one for when camping and a small one for the diaper bag, just havent been able to afford it yet. i also use a garbage can for dry pailing the rags we use instead of paper towels.

i use plasitc garbage cans with lids. the lids swivel open and DD can put her diapers in there herself. i think they are 30 gal ones.

Lol

I have used a trash can with lid in the past, but currently we're using an empty Tidy Cats kitty litter bucket & lid. It actually works great.

I'm glad we're not the only ones using the Tidy Cat bucket. It works really nicely, but I can see us needing something bigger if we went longer than every other day for washing or when the diapers get bigger.

I use the plastic cosco diaper pail they have at Target, it was like $5 or $10, I forget. I don't line it, just dump the whole thing in the washer and if it's dirty, scrub it.

We used a kitchen trash can from Target for almost 8 years. Worked great!

Yep. Except mine in Fresh Step! Just the perfect size.

I just use 3 gallon plastic buckets, no lid, liner, or water. I have one next to the bed and one in the bathroom. I stick it in the tub and run hot water and soap in it if it gets dirty.

We SMJAE wetbags for on-the-go.

I use a diaper champ with a diaper liner (I like Wahmies) in it. It holds the stink in and contains a few days worth of diapers.

I like using a metal garbage pail because it does a much better job of NOT retaining odors. Plastic has a tendency to really hold onto odors well.

to plastic diaper pails with foot levers. $20.00 total or less. They have lasted 10-12 years each.
