Babywearing in the heat

I have an Ergo and love carrying DD in it. She loves it too but now that the weather is really hot I worry about the two of us becoming super sweaty since we've both got each others body heat. Is there anyway to stay cooler in the Ergo during the summer months?

I'm incredibly concerned about this seeing as I live in the desert...

I read a post on here last year about a toddler who ended up in the ER with heatstroke from being in the Ergo so I don't use it when it's hot out.

They've come out with the lighter "Ergo sport" now, but I already sent them an e-mail asking why they've only released it in black??? The purpose of it is to keep parent and baby cooler, but making it in black kind of defeats the purpose.

If you really want to carry her on hot days, a lightweight mei tai might be better. Good luck finding a solution!

I would take baby off every so often and make sure both of you are hydrated. Or alternate between a stroller and the Ergo for long outings (like Disney, we are taking a stroller b/c it will be much cooler for both the 2 yo and me).

There are a few retailers online that still have some carriers of various kinds made out of solarveil fabric-breathable, sun protecting, and quick drying. I read that the manufacturer has discontinued making it though. So if you can find one you like that's in stock it may be a good way to go....

One of the main thinks that one needs to remember while babywearing is to always be aware. Be aware of what your baby is grabbing onto, that they are fine, that they are safe, and that they are happy. I have found it easier to tell when my kiddos are getting too hot while babywearing, since they are right there I can see them vs. being in a stroller or elsewhere.

Get a sling that works in the heat, maybe something in a light color and a lightweight fabric. Wear a hat on you and the baby if you are outside and make sure that the baby is drinking liquids often... but this is really just common sense and the same thing we should be doing whether babywearing or not.

Connecta makes a solarweave carrier (solarweave is like boys swim shorts).

Taylormade Treasures has a nice lightweight batik that I used all over Asia, and they also make a solarveil sling
