Just curious

Monday, August 3rd. With a little one (K1), it seems to make more sense to start at the beginning of a month... and I can't wait until September!

I'm using Homeschool Skedtrack as a planner it's free

I have our start date as 8/12 * the day after my daughter turns 6* and end date as 5/28. I may change it though not sure yet. This will be our first year homeschooling and she will be in 1st grade. We did public school for K.

We go year-round (this current week is our "off" week for the last two months), so our next official start-date would be July 6. We take the last week of every other month off.

We started last Monday

august 17th is when we'll start back.

We don't really have a set start date. Most likely around the same time schools start here, which is the first week of September.
Today is the first day of summer holidays for school kids and I had neighbor kids show up at our door at 9:30 this morning. I expect most of the summer to be like this, and since our summers are so short we try to make the most of it for as long as we can.

Tomorrow, is when I am starting to keep records, but we are going HS-lite, until the summer program at the park ends. Then, it will be "fulltime" HSing after that

We began last week. Or should I say, that is when I began to keep record. We have unofficially been going since the beginning of April when we removed DS from school due to illness.

We're going to be homeschooling year-round. NY's school year begins July 1st, so normally tomorrow would be our fist official day. However, Marc is taking a vacation from July 4th-12th this year, so we decided to hold off until July 13th.

That may not have been the best idea. I mailed our letter of intent (LOI) this morning and told Nik that he is now "officially" a homeschooler. He got really excited and demanded to start right away. I got out some workbooks to keep him happy since I'm not quite finished with my planning.

We are starting on July 6th, the same day DD2 starts summer school. I plan to take it pretty easy over the summer, reading about Shakespeare 9and maybe seeing a play), growing and using some herbs, doing the library summer reading program (even me!), attending dance for PE and doing lots of *nature study* at the lake We'll take a three week break from mid august to after Labor day and start up again with more formal studies. As far as my notice of intent, it states our year starts on July 1st.

We are going to start August 24 officially. DH has the first few days of that week off and we're going to make it very exciting as we all work together.

September 8th!

Even though school was a total buzzkill for me, I do have a nostalgic sense of 'school never started until the Tuesday after Labor Day' every time I hear of children returning to school in August.

Since I get to decide when our school starts, that was an easy choice for me.

We've always been very casual, year-round, unschoolers.
As we are transitioning to being a waldorf homeschooling family, it seemed right and appropriate to take the summer off to just *be* (and for mama to do lots of reading and planning in preparation for this change.)

As far as keeping track of books read/field trips and the like, we started on May 1st...since we closed last school year out on April 15th. Wow! I hadn't thought of it that way, we're taking a 4 month summer break. Cool. We also moved at the end of April and are still settling in...lots of big changes all at once.

I haven't yet decided. I'm 'due' in the middle/end of August.

Hey me too! Though I will probably go sooner. Still with it being twins I pushed out start date to Sept 8. Hopefully that will give me enough time from the birth and to also get more in the swing of things.

We are doing year round this year since I'm due in September. I wanted to keep them going so when the time comes they could have a break for a few weeks if needed (or maybe longer ). However, I probably won't start keeping record of what they are doing until the first of August.

we go year round, so we'll finish up this year at the end of July, take a week or so off and officially start the 2009-2010 school year on August 10th.

Aug 1st. This is our second year of homeschooling. I found that after looking at the school records from last year, when the sun was out, we rocked the schoolwork (which was the opposite of what I thought would happen. I thought we'd knuckle down and focus when we were snowed in for weeks at a time, but that did.not.happen.at.all). I'm planning on capitalizing on our overall motivation thanks to the sun. We took all of June and July "off" from "formal" curriculum and focused on learning the things we are super interested in. Funny, we're getting the same amount done.

I love homeschooling!!

August 31st is our official start date. It's Labor day, so it's more of a party day than a work day. That starts the day after. The first day is all about organizing and trying out the materials - and yep, neighborhood kids have already been invited. :

Public school starts two weeks before that, so until we start DS has independent study time to work more on his interests, get involved in something..whatever he wants.

We started Monday "officially". Our plan is to school year round from here on out.
