Tell me why you like fitted diapers

I currently use a mix of prefolds, pockets and all in ones. Never tried a fitted dipe. I'm wondering what people like about them? Wondering if I should try them? I just don't know if I want to bother with the 2 step process of putting cover on top...might as well do a prefold and save the money? I hear they are good for newborns. DD is 5 months - but maybe I'll want them when I have baby #2? I'm considering ordering 1 to try...not sure what brand. Maybe kissaluvs? Sort of dangerous though bc then I might want to buy a bunch if I like them and we don't need more diapers at the moment.

My fitteds contain the mess no better than my prefolds. There is, however, less bulk under the cover, and I don't have to worry about keeping a snappy around (I always lose those things!) Also, with a prefold, I feel like I have to get it just right or it ends up poking out the legs of the cover, and the top in front or back, then when she pees I feel wet fabric poking out! My DH prefers fitteds because they are easier for him in the middle of the night. Then again, we've only been cloth diapering 2 weeks. When we buy the next size up, we will probably have mostly prefolds and covers because of cost...it's not worth *that* much more to me to get fitteds, kwim?

I love Kissaluvs 0 for newborns - ya know when they poo every 5 seconds and it is pretty explosive? That is when they are good. I have some one size bamboo (baby beehinds) fitteds and they are just fine- but I wish I would have spent the money on AIOs. You could try converting your prefolds into fitteds- I have done this and they work very nicely for much much cheaper.

I really just prefer AIOs though.

Contain messes much better than prefolds, even in covers. I like to go coverless at home so I like the ease of changes with fitteds vs. prefolds and pins/snappi.

Fitteds fit my skinny son better than bulky PF. Also, I don't know if it's so worth it to have too many in the newborn size, if they're being changed so often. I like the fitteds, as they can be pretty trim, and there are very trim covers available. I use the PF in the morning when we're still at home, and in the late afternoon. Otherwise most of the day is usually in fitteds.

Good to know. Thanks. Sounds like they are great for newborns. The poosplosions seem to have mellowed out a bit by now for us. I try and keep DD in an AIO instead of prefolds until she poops but she's a morning pooper. I've tried a new fold lately (bikini fold) to help with fit since she's about to outgrown the small prefolds..but it holds the poop in pretty well too.

How do you go coverless? Doesn't it get the clothes/things baby is on wet?

Hmm. I still think I will try 1 even though it sounds like we probably don't need them until we have a new one again. The prefolds were way too hulky on DD since she was under 6 lbs at birth and we ended up using sposies the first month...don't want to go that route next time (we were living in an apartment and stuck using diaper service then so we had to do prefolds).

ehh -- try one, then you will know for sure.

Prefolds work fine and they were always the bulk of our stash, but a fitted was just easier to use, better fit and providing that the fitted has a good constructed gusset, they contained the messes much better.
Coverless summers have happened a lot here, and a fitted just made it that much better.

For me, I can get a better fit with a fitted than a prefold, and they are definitely easier for dh.

I do use AIOs sometimes for going out and for the diaper bag, but I prefer fitteds over AIOs or pockets because I can use it with a wool cover or pants (or coverless) for a completely breathable, non-synthetic diaper.

What about contoured? Do any of you use those? I just discovered them when browsing the diaper sites today. Look similar but I don't recall if they have leg gussets.

I went ahead and ordered 1 kissaluv size 1 today. :-) I like that is lasts from 10 to 25 lbs. Easier to justify.

They contain the poo and much easier with a wiggly baby.

Hopefully soon I will be able to get around to making some using Rita's Rump pattern. I have a nice stack of old recieving blankets I'm dying to sew. When we are home I usually don't use a cover.

It depends. Typically, if we're coverless, then my son does not wear pants. On occassion, if one of us is holding my son and he's coverless, our shirts might get damp if he pees. Nothing gets soaked. If we want to cover then we use a pair of wool shorties.

When my little one goes coverless, he doesn't wear pants. I usually do that on hot days, or after baths to let his sensitive skin breathe. We haven't had problems with anything getting wet, but we do change him often.

I love my fitteds because they are quicker for me than prefolds, and hold poop better than most of my pockets (assuming the cover is on correctly!). My ds has food allergies and rarely has really solid poo, so containment is really important around here!!!!

I have one contour and don't really care for it. It's one of the last dipes I reach for. No elastic to help with poo. At least with prefolds, I can use the jelly roll fold or angel wing fold, and that sort of helps with containment. But with contours, there's just nothing there around the edge...

I really like snappiable fitteds lately and have been making more of those for my ds and for the newbie due in Aug. Faster than snaps for me, and less of a pita than aplix!

I like fitteds because we mostly use wool covers. An AIO or pocket just doesn't breathe as well. We do have some pul covers as well. I will admit that the fuzzibunz are handy for long outings.

I don't have the patience for prefolds. We have some and I use them from time to time. I just don't see the appeal if fitteds are an option. So if the diaper budget allows for fitteds I definitely vote for them.

I like fitteds and wool in the summer. Seems like a good way to keep a kid in diapers but cool. Can even use just a fitted.

I like bamboozles!

I like fitteds without ruffles around the legs because they go under covers easier.

I find fitteds easier and faster, especially when baby got older and wanted to scoot around on the floor while I chase after trying to secure a diaper!

Once she was standing, we did all diaper changes standing up. I loved Motherease Sandys, which snap on the side so you can either wrap them around baby conventional style, or snap them first and have baby step into them to pull up like underwear. That was so much easier once she was standing and walking!

I don't use any synthetics, so don't care for AIOs, and I don't like pockets either. I use wool covers as pants or shorts (even just a soaker or wrap) so there is no extra step.

All that said, I'm expecting and planning to alternate fitteds with flats, because I think I can do a much better job making them work now that I've learned more!
