What works best for cracked nipples?

Oh help please.
This is my first time with a cracked nipple and it's killing me.

What works best? I don't want to mess around with lanolin if there's something better out there. I've seen some lovely Earth Mama Angel Baby stuff in the stores, maybe that? Anything else?

For now I'll skate by with percocet and lanolin but hopefully someone knows what REALLY works fast.

Thanks.

For me, definitely lansinoh.

Breast milk, lanolin, and correcting what is causing the pain.

i've tried both lansinoh and earth mama. lansinoh seems thicker, like it stays on better. but both are OK.

i agree w/the last poster.

i also temporarily used a nipple shield during nursing

and softshell or therashell

over the nipple when clothed to keep fabric from pressing or touching the sore nipple

to let the nipple heal.

i had thought nipple shields were only for inverted nipples & such but both of these items were a huge lifesaver early on. i think i used 'em maybe 2 wks. and healed thoroughly.

hope that helps.

Medela hydrogel pads. Cut them in half since they aren't cheap. I tired Lansinoh and the shells. If I had to do it over again I wouldn't waste any money on the lansinoh and shells and just go straight to the gel pads. They are nice and cooling, plus the speed up the healing process.

I had one severely cracked/bleeding nipple while still in hospital. Lansinoh worked wonders for me. I fed him on the good side and rested the bad side for 24 hours, just expressing to keep flow going.

Belated yet hearty thank you, folks.
The nipple shield in combination with the Earth Mama Angel Baby nipple butter finally healed this.
I'm now a lot more careful not to let the baby get sleepy and suck on the tips of the nipples.
