Do you have to make the compost in a bin or will a pile just work? We have this great ditch in the back behind our fence line that is on no ones property. We have been putting our grass clippings over the fence......
See previous posts on a summer system and a winter system.....
Just remember, that no matter how you pile it, it must be turned every day.
As to the urine.....I think it really did help excellerate things. But it still took until this month, for the compost to smell like dirt, rather then rotting compost.
That hot weather finished it off for me, finally.
I was getting truly discouraged.
It really is an interesting study, on how the French fertilize.
There is nothing toxic about it, as we would tend to think.
We have to remember that it is sterile from the beginning.
Unlike a certain other kind of fertilizing that is practiced South of the Border (fresh #2)! (and we wonder why E.Coli gets into food).
What they do, is collect number one, and keep adding to a big barrel. Letting it age for three months, and then using it straight as a fertilizer, the same way you use compost tea.
Believe me, I was grossed out when I was first reading about this, but I did the research and found out lots of stuff that is lost knowledge to most people.
