Matthew Levi is HERE! LONG!

He obviously only waited for July :::

Last night was the same as every other night, Baby was just very busy. DH and I finally went to bed just after midnight. At 2:30am I woke and thought that something felt a bit odd down there. Thought maybe I finally had that bloody show... the next moment my waters broke and gushed, and gushed and gushed and gushed..... you get the picture. There is no way it could have been mistaken for anything else. Joke is that we took the waterproof cover off the bed the day before because it was making us sweaty at night!

I woke dh to ask him to pass me a towel or something. Poor man must have been in deep sleep. He jumped out of bed, ran this way and that; looked at me like I was an alien from Mars speaking a language he had never heard before He was halfway out the room trying to find the child he thought needed help when I called him back and told him that I needed a towel and that my water had broken.... he was actually sooooo funny!

Never realized how messy it could be... it just kept gushing. At that point there were no contractions other than very, very mild ones that were very irregular. We had a bit of a debate on whether we should call the midwife or not. |I thought we could wait until morning (ha-ha-ha) and dh wanted to call her immediately. He won! My own midwife was on call, which was great and she said she would rather head out here and just check out things.... man, am I glad she did. I told her not to rush, though, as there was really no hurry!

Today is a public holiday, so we didn't tidy the house last night. DH and I went downstairs, cleared the tumbledrier, put the duvet etc into the machine to start washing. Put some large pots on the stove to boil for extra hot water for the birth pool and Then did a quick tidy up. During this time I realised that maybe it was a good idea the midwife was coming because things were picking up. I could still easily breathe through the contractions, but they were around 4 or 5 mins apart. DS6 woke up and was soooooo excited to watch DH set up the pool. But he was talking soooooo much! DH put a DVD on for him, DS5, DS2 and DS1. DS3 and DS4 slept through it all.

The midwife arrived just before we turned on rhe dvd. It was around 3:45am and by then I was struggling with just breathing through the contractions and they were double peaking. For the first of all my births I wanted dh to rub my back and to apply pressure on the front as well.... somehow it just felt better. I wasn't planning to have an internal, but I needed to know that I was progressing, so I asked her to check, as it felt like transition, but I couldn't believe that it could possibly have been. She did a quick check and yup: 7cm This was the point at which I became slightly abusive to dh! Within 2 contractions I wanted to push; the hot water from the tank had run out and I WANTED to be in the water. Dh poured the water from the pots into the pool and went to get the kettle. I got into the water and pushed.

I was a bit worried about pushing but my body was just doing it and with one push, I could feel the head and then the body just slipped out! Dh came in with the kettle about 2 mins later He missed the birth AGAIN! He is pretty bummed ! The pushing was great, though, and my midwife was true to her word! I delivered him myself into my hands and it was incredible.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the student midwife arrived about 5 mins before this.

Baby was born at 4:06am. Just over 1.5hours after I woke up! It was very, very, very intense and I found it hard to deal with the speed at which it progressed. At the same time though it was a great birth.

Placenta came out on its own about 1/2 hour later whilst Matthew was nursing and I took some Shepherd's Purse Tincture to help with the the bleeding. Midwife was a bit concerned about the pp bleeding, so I eventually told her that she could give me the oxytocin to help with that. I didn't feel like I was bleeding too much and my heartrate and pulse were doing really well but the oxytocin wasn't a big deal for me at this stage as the placenta had already been delivered.

Trev called the boys in even before the placenta was delivered and they came and met the new addition.

Midwife checked for tearing, but I only have one tiny little superficial external tear that didn't need any stitching - incredible, given that there is no moulding of the head and his weight! This is my biggest baby by far.

His stats are:
Head:34.5 cm
Length:53.5 cm
Weight: 4,05kg (9 pounds)

He latched beautifullly and he is very, very laid-back.... relaxed and really just sooooo gorgeous!

My dh was just soooo amazing during the birth and after!

Thank you everyone for being there for me during this pregnancy!
