Did anyone else catch this tonight on TLC?

I saw it. I thought it was interesting and well done. Though I admit I only saw the last half hour.

I only saw the last 30 minutes also. I thought is was HYSTERICAL how every time a woman gave birth, the first thing the narrator person said was "AMAZINGLY, she has given birth without ANY PAIN MEDICATION."

I also didn't see it from the beginning. The she did it with NO PAIN MEDS was just stupid. I mean we wouldn't want it to seem normal or anything.

It seems like they were trying very hard to make the parents that had the unassisted birth seem off, um er dull. I wonder if that mama is on here.

me too!

I only saw snippets of it, both the first and second time they played it. My great aunt and uncle were surprise twins (obviously, when you are born at home on the farm in the 1930s there is little prenatal care), and my friend's sisters who are in their 30s were surprise twins too. Let me just say that I am so thankful that my twins were not a surprise at delivery!

I totally freaked out at the part where they xray-ed that pregnant woman a few days before she gave birth. Then my mind starts to wander. . . what is the medical community doing now that we will find out is harmful/toxic in 30 years?

Loved the quizzes though. Hope all the strangers I may run into were watching and noticed that paternal genetics do not play a part in twinning. In-laws. . . can you hear me?

I though that too : I didn't like how the narrarator made it seem that because it was a homebith that there was a lack of care.

oh and my sisters were surprise twins in 1973... in a hospital! My mom went full term and as the ob delivered the baby he sang "Happy Birthday" and then he started to sing it again and my mom said my dad almost hit the floor, lol.

I actually didn't get that. What I got what they got a different type of care. Which is very much true. A midwife or an Unassisted mama does things differently from and OB.

I was wondering during the show if the mama who used the midwife and the mama who did the UC were on here... I bet they are! Especially the UC mama because she did so much research she must have found MDC!

Oh my gosh I think about this ALL THE TIME. I talk about it with friends who are considering birth control methods a lot, also. And assisted reproduction. (Not trying to start a debate here, just stating that these are things I think about in these wee hours when I'm the only person in the world that's awake!

I got that from the way it was done, also.

I AGREE!

i thought it was funny that they made it out like the moms were crazy!

I always like when the mom has the baby by surprise at home and they comment that it was a vaginal birth. "Melissa has just given birth to a baby girl vaginally with NO pain medication and only the assistance of her 10 year old son." Like...yeah, you had to specify it was vaginal, because there was a 50/50 chance her ten year old was going to pull out a scalpel and she'd deliver surgically on her bathroom floor
