Yeah, it was pretty awful! I can trick myself into believing that I don't know the books exist and semi-enjoy the movie as some random movie...but the purist in me doesn't want to.

How about a good version of "A Ring of Endless Light?" THere was a TV version not long about that was about as off as The Continuing Story was!

Because when all the whining about it being a Twilight knockoff started, I'd end up doing something unfortunate.

But wasn't Sunshine written first? And it's quite different from Twilight.

Best Friends Forever by Jennifer Weiner.
Although I bet there would be some 'knockoff' comments about that, too (which I can actually see...Sort of).

Correct.
Which is why I'd end up doing things which I cannot describe under the MDC user agreement when the whining about it being a knock-off started.

Great book. I just don't want to see it become a movie now that Twilight's come out. Just like I like Dianna Wynne-Jones's stuff, but don't want it to be a movie after Harry Potter.

I love The Westing Game. If they could make it clever enough, it would be an awesome movie.

I couldn't originally think of the names of these two books, but these were good and might make a good HP type movie with more romanticism.

Sounds interesting. I went and read the Wiki entry for Sunshine. Would it be OK for my 14 y.o. dd?

You may not answer "It depends on your dd's maturity level, " or some such.

I would have no problem with a 14 year old reading Sunshine. There is violence (it is a vampire book) and a very little bit of sex that is not at all explicit. If she hasn't read any of Robin McKinley's other books, I highly recommend them. They tend to be written for a young adult audience and are delightful.
