I've just found out there are some foods called "goitrogens", which can interfere with function of the thyroid gland and am now concerned. Should we still be eating these foods? -Im shocked as they are healthy foods such as cruciferous vegetables -broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, mustard, etc. -aswell as foods containing soybeans.

So should be not be eating cruciferous vegetables due to this?? I thought they were among the most healthy foods to eat! help?

Moderation in all things. Broccoli can also cause kidney stones if you eat too much.

Some people who already have thyroid issues (and I believe it's just hypothyroid) have issues with these foods but only raw. Cooking lessens the effect. I'm hypo and I've never had any problems with these foods but based on my reading many people do. I believe people experience a return of symptoms (usually extreme fatigue) after eating them although it's temporary...usually a few hours to a day or two.

It was my understanding that goitrogenic foods were only a problem if you already had a problem with your thyroid. Walnuts are also on that list. Broccoli and cauliflower don't bother me (I'm hypo) but if I eat soy I am a big grumpy sleepy mess the next day.
