so we just had a really long night with my 5 month old. She had the PCv7 vaccine yesterday (her 2nd) and seemed fine all day. Then I took her to bed (we bed share) around 8:30. Usually I can nurse her to sleep and then get up for a while before I join her for the night. She nursed for about an hour! Then I got up for maybe 15 minutes before she started to stir. From that point on she was nursing and fussing until 2am. It was horrible. She had two really big, stinky poops in the middle of the night (she hasn't pooped in the night since she was a month old!) She also had a bit of a fever which I ended up giving her tylenol for. She just wouldn't sleep. She is typically a very good sleeper and stirs in her sleep once or twice to nurse for 10 minutes max. Not hours.

We have tried to make really thoughtful decisions about the vaccines we give her. She's not reacted like this at all before. In fact she's hardly had any reaction at all. She's had two DTaP (at 2 and 4 months) and two PCv7 (at 3 and 5 months). Would you stop the PCv7 at this point or am I overreacting and these are "normal" vaccine reactions? Please help this sleep deprived Mama.

You should first ask yourself IF

"normal" vaccine reactions?
- is acceptable to you? You don't know and know one does if there was any long term damage done, it's just a wait and see, no one can say for sure one way or not.

Did you contact your ped? What if any reassurance where you given? IF so, are you alright with it?

Given all the info that is on this site, and other info out there, do you want to risk a further reaction?

I would answer these question first and get it clear in my mind and go from there, you have to be able to live it.

There is no "normal" vaccine reactions IMO.

Only you can answer the question you have posed. Persoanlly I don't vax at all at this point, but am considering 1 vaccine. If there was ANY reaction whatsoever I would not continue. I would also urge you not to give Tylenol post vaccine. It will only mask whatever reaction is going on and totally bombs out Glutathione.....glutathione is very important to the immune system. If you feel you absolutley must give something I would give children's motrin.

Well I had 'normal' reactions all the way up until my last dose, which is when I experienced grand mal seizures nonstop even on full medication at the ER. And my ped said through each reaction, even the final one, that it 'wasn't the vaccines.'

Humans experience sensitization when allergic to something. As the body is exposed again and again, it reacts more violently and immediately than the time before. So theoretically she could have a severe reaction the next time around.

So WWID w/ that past experience? I would caution you to stop all vaccinations right now and do some research on what is in the vaccine, how it is made, how it affects humans, etc. I would also review the vaccine related disease and answer 1) why am I scared of this particular illness? 2) is the vaccine very effective? 3) how long will it protect her? 4) does it outweigh potential side effects and other risks?

Also, please please avoid Tylenol at all costs. There are quite a few links if you search "tylenol" on MDC that show this potentially interacts w/ vaccines and causes more damage.

There's no way I would do anymore.

Thank you mamas for this info. I'm still feeling horrible right now for giving it to her in the first place. I am not giving her the third dose. I'm so worried about what damage may have already occurred. We thought we were making the right decision at the time. Its so hard to be responsible for someone's little life.

And thank you for that info about tylenol. I had no idea. I'm grateful for the MDC community to help this first time mama out!

Your little one is just adorable.

It is scary to be responsible for a new life. I was scared, too, the first few months, but that will go away, or at least get better!

I would also suggest stopping all vaccines and resuming when she is older if you feel vaxing is really necessary.

OMGsh I totally agree! Just clicked on the link and that is an adorablllle baby! the curl is to die for!!! ::

I agree sometimes it is overwhelming to think about how much responsibility you have over this cute, completely vulnerable, special person. We all have trials and learn from our experiences. I think it takes a lot of courage for OP to be open minded to change and to care #1 about her baby's health no matter what the status quo is.

Which one are you considering?

To the OP...it is so hard, and I truly believe that we all do the very best we can as mothers in each moment. Personally, I wouldn't continue with the series. I learned that the hard way with my dd (now 5) who was fully vaxed on schedule with her DTaP. Her "normal" reactions worsened each time until her last dose (4y) resulted in such severe swelling, redness and a localized reaction that reached from her elbow to above her shoulder on the arm which recieved the injection. Her first reaction was a golf ball sized lump. The ped now says she can never recieve anohter Tetnus shot b/c it could cause permanent joint damage. Trust me, I get the guilt factor!

I hope that your little one is feeling better. If I were you, I would focus on building and supporting the immune system from here on out and keep up with the only safe and natural vaccine (BF ) as long as you can!!!

The HIB, but ONLY when he stops BF which I hope would not be for a long time. He is in daycare which puts him at higher risk, but I have to admnit, my consdiering this particular vax is fear based only.

I do and have done tons of research on HIB and the odss of my child getting invasive HIB disease is practically nill, but menegitis scares the crap outta me. I know many strains of bacteria can lead to menengitis and I am also aware of serotype replacement issues....it's more that I guess I leave my options open
