Help! (Zone 3 gardeners!)

The sparrows ate my first attempt at peas, so I replanted and covered with chicken wire and netting and now that the plants are 12" tall again and growing nearer to the wire , they've found a way to poke their wretched little heads in and get at the plants again.... so now I have almost 20 feet of wasted planting.
Is there anything I could get away with planting so late in the season?
Thanks!

Radishes, any cool weather crops like spring lettuce and spinach. Because we have such a short growing season and it is fairly cool we can get away with doing our fall planting mid summer and your cool weather crops will probably do better than if you had planted them in spring.

I agree, radishes, spinach, lettuce any quick growing greens like that would do well. You might even be able to get away with trying peas again as long as it's an early variety (short number of days to harvest) However I'm not sure I'd want to try peas again if I were you given what happened.

Oh, they ate my spinach and lettuce too... my grandpa lives in the area and he had to build heavy duty cages to grow his lettuce under.

Is it too late for beets, beans, chard, zucchini or cucumber?

Ill try radishes for sure, I just don't want 20 feet of them! lol

I'd give any of those a try, but choose the shortest season varieties you can find. With beets you can eat the tops and then hopefully get some baby sized ones by the end of season. Try to find bedding plants for zucchini and cucs if you can. If you pre-soak your bean seeds they'll germinate quickly.

I planted beets two days ago and they are sprouting already so today I went for patty pan squash. Replanted corn today too but I have no hope for it (grrr cutworms).

I say go for it! Seeds are cheap and baby veg is yummy! Mmm roasted baby beet salad with goats cheese and walnuts and arugala.
