Cloth Diapers for Dummies?

Hi!

I'm a first-time mom-to-be, and I always knew we would do cloth diapers (that's what I had as a babe). However, it turns out I don't know anything about cloth diapers...lol.

My mom used a diaper service and the diapers with the big safety pins. I think a lot has changed since then.

Can you recommend a resource that would teach me what I need to know about cloth diapers, our options, and how to make them? For example, I've been trying to find what I need to know here, and I don't even know what this stuff means: covers, pockets, fitteds, prefolds...

Help!

Hi, fellow DDCer
I've been hanging out in here trying to learn all I can too. My mother used prefolds and some flats that she made herself mostly. With the pins and rubber pull up covers. Anyhoo- you're right, there are so many options today.

I got this from one of the mama's siggies here and it helped me alot. I hope she doesn't mind me posting it. The getting started link on the side is great!

a page here that will be helpful:
http://www.mothering.com/discussions...ad.php?t=76610

a good resource page. scroll down for multiple article subjects:
http://www.diaperjungle.com/cloth-diaper-guide.html

another place to find some general information:
http://www.diaperpin.com/howto.asp

hope that helps a little. It will all fall into place. Just when you think you have it all figured out, another variety will come to light and you will rethink your decision. There are lots of variety to try. AND mistakes are ways of learning how to have a good diapering routine -- expect them.

good luck and congrats!

Green Mountain Diapers is a great source to find information, especially if you want to use mostly natural fibers.

I'm a first time to be mom and the cloth diapering is overwhelming to me, too. But, I found this resource to be great. They even have videos to show you how each of the different diapers work:

This is my favorite: http://www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com/basics.htm

It has some good resources on FAQs, detergent and diaper rash creams.

These resources are terrific! I finally had a chance to check them all out, and I feel like I might be able to do this after all.

Thank you so much!

Just wanted to add a couple things, for diaper rashes honey does a marvelous job of clearing up any rash in a much shorter time than creams. Also I wanted to give you a link to my blog with my own diaper ideas in case it can be of help to you, mine are quite unique.

Good Luck!
