They're wreaking havoc. More than half of the chard I planted is chicken food instead of people food because of the little buggers, and the beets look like they're barely hanging on.
I've tried spraying with neem, I've tried using soap and water in a pressure sprayer to remove the eggs from the undersides of leaves, as well as just using my fingers, I've tried removing all the affected leaves I can find and burning them, and I just can't keep up. And the leaf miners are laughing at me.
I'm in western Oregon; does anyone have any experience with how to defeat, or at least come to a draw with these little nasties? I'm definitely going to be using row covers on beets/chard/spinach next year, but I'm concerned that it won't matter now that they've made themselves so very much at home.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
