I'm now back from the hospital with my son (its was cool to not know what I was going to have until the moment of birth). Labor and birth went nothing like I had planned, but in the end he was/is very healthy.
It started on Sunday night when my water broke at about 3:15 am. I had had no indications that labor was imminant (and believe me...everyone was asking), and I was a week before my due date of July 04. Contractions started about an hour later, and ended up settling into a regular pattern of every three minutes by about 8:30 am. I was surprised that it happened that soon...but we called the clinic and as an OB was on call she wanted us to come in to the hospital right away, mostly because of the water breaking. I was hoping to labor at home for as long as I could, but I knew that the hospital was going to be nervous about the water breaking and the possibility of infection.
So anyways, we went to the hospital and I labored, for what seemed like a really long time, breathing through the contractions with my husband's help. The OB eventually swapped out with the midwife (yeah!) but every time anyone checked I was only at 3cm. To their credit they let me keep trying for hours...and hours...and didn't push anything onto me, but eventually recommended pictocin. So I very reluctantly did it.
Contractions got so intense I could no longer deal with them effectively. Progress was stalled at 6cm. I think you can see the ending here...
After 30 hours of labor Gwydion was born by C-section on June 29th, at 7lbs 6 oz. He is truly an amazing baby. Nurses and sleeps like a pro, and is cute as hell. I love him to death.
: I am recovering well, (my husband on the other hand says he is scarred for life...I hope he is not serious!).
