DH says no more cloth!

So we've been though a few different types of CDs trying to find our soul mate diaper. Embarrassed DH says that it's getting more expensive than sposies! He sees the weekly fluffy mail and assumes I'm spending too much. He says that we may have to quit CDing and go back to sposies because it will be cheaper. Aaah! How can I get him to see that CDing is cheaper and better? I don't want to go back to sposies!

i think there is a website that lays the math out. but i understand where your husband is coming from (ok well... actually.. i understand you, DP understands your DH ) i never really found that perfect diaper and i went through phases.. i found that i used different ones depending on my mood.

DPs eyes would bug out when i told him the price. i had to remind him we reused them. i love GMD prefolds, dreameaze AIO and fitted, and Bum geniuS pocket. but i never found that one diaper that i loved. i did find a bunch that i hated though

For me I could only justify it by going with prefolds. I later bought a few used FB's and wool covers. But some cloth dipes, as great as they are just wouldn't make it financially justifiable for me. So I guess, I can see where your dh is coming from. But I would commit to something cheaper before going back to sposies.

Make it a bet.

If you can show him it will be cheaper in the long run, you get a portion of the difference for something of YOUR interest and if it documents out that he is right -- he gets a portion of the difference for HIS interest.

Then prove HIM wrong. LOL

I used to always show B how we saved here and there and it afforded other luxuries, like ice cream, zoo, camping trips with those extra bucks. Or later with two in diapers made a big contribution to our oldest private education.

You can use your cloth diapers for subsequent babies and you can sell your used cloth diapers when you are done. If you do either or both, then cloth will be cheaper.

I don't really understand. If you've already spent the money on the cd's then wouldn't it cost more to abandon them & switch to disposables? Do you have enough in your stash yet or do you still need to purchase more? If he just doesn't want you to buy more could you just make due with what you have?

If you spent 20 dollars a week on disposables, it would be 960 dollars a year.

My son was in disposibles for the first two weeks (thanks to the hospital giving us SO many to go home with, and he had to have them in the hospital). Anyway, in just those two weeks, he went through 57 dollars worth of diapers (dh and I did the math). Think of how much cloth I could buy weekly for that kind of money?

DH is having a hard time getting used to the cloth. I bought a lot of AIO's and they are still too big for DS. His legs are soooo skinny that it is just going to take time. He does well in his fitteds and this week I will try the prefolds. I think it just takes time to get the right fit for you and the baby, but still well worth it.

I see where your husband is coming from – cloth diapering is supposed to be cheaper. I've spent less than $300 for three dozen infant prefolds, two dozen large size prefolds and a dozen small and medium Bummis covers. It will do me for this babe and the next.
I'd just use what you've got.

Once you already have the cloth I cant see how its wise to switch. I can understand his point as I have definitely spent more so far on cloth than I would have on disposables. However, thats cause Im addicted We have way more than we need. I attempt to justify that the savings will come because Im planning a large family. Just hope the nappy fabrics/elastics etc dont die on us before that has a chance to happen

Due to my pocket/AIO addiction and the fact that I never bought anything in bulk, and the fact that I didn't start CDing DD until she was 11 months, I suspect that we more or less broke even on the CDing (although I never did the math).

However, if you start from newborn, when they go through so many diapers, that would change.

And here I am with another baby due, and suddenly realize that our diapering costs after the newborn stage are going to be very low! (That actually makes me a little sad as there have been lots of diaper innovations since DD was in CDs just a couple of years ago, and yet I don't actually need to buy any!!)
