Newborn dipes?

Thread Starter
We moved with ds when he was born, so I ended up using sposies for the first month. Then after I used prefolds and covers. So I'll be starting right off with cloth for this baby.

What is a good system for newborn dipes and how many will I need. I don't want to spend a lot of $$ on it either. I have seen that some mamas reccomend proraps for covers, but the couple that I have melted in the dryer, so I'd rather go with another cover. Are flatfolds easier on a newborn than bulkier prefolds? Or would I be best to go with some kind of fitted or contoured dipe?

if you search "newborn" in the diapering forum you'll get tons of opinions. i'm using prefolds with bsww's and thirsties to start.

We use orange-edged newborn-sized prefolds (only available at http://www.greenmountaindiaper.com ) w/ nb Bummis Super Brites covers until the cord stump falls off, then nb Bummis super whisper wraps as the baby chubs up. The super brites have a cord dip and are smaller and trimmer. We trifold the prefolds. 24 prefolds gets us thru w/ washing every other day. We have diapered 3 newborns this way so far and it works great!

I used lots of prefolds and fitteds on my girls as newborns. For fitteds, I loved the Kissaluv 0s and Thirsties. I used a few flats, too, and they are really, really versitile. Tons of ways to fold them!

I used a lot of Bummis Super Whisper Wraps for covers. I prefer the newer Bummis Super Brights because of the gussets, though. Thirsties are a simple PUL cover, too, that also has gussets.

We did the same thing. I used 4 dozen, and occasionally dipped into my infant sized stash, but I have a really crummy wash situation.

I'm doing a combo of prefolds and fitteds, with Thirsties covers and wool (due Aug). I vote, if prefolds worked well for you before, stick with them. They are inexpensive and so forgiving!

Congrats on your coming arrival!

I think prefolds are fine, but loved fitteds to catch the leaky poos. It might be nice to have some. I had some blueberry newborn fitteds, some muttaqins, motherease sandies and some kissaluvs, and the blueberries and mutts were the nicer of the 4.
