Salt Lake City Playgroups? - Page 5

Yeah we posted the same time hehe but I just went to bed after my post so didn't see yours till now, but wow Kris! I hope things go okay for you during surgery. I know that sucks, I had to have a wart removed from my tongue yeah of all places. When they put that anesthesy needle (sorry Leah I know you hate needles) that's when I vowed I'd never get my tongue pierced lol.

Anyway yeah it sucks seeing our lo's in pain, he's doing better with the stool softners but still grunting but everyday is a progress for us. Did yours outgrow it? I hope it's just something that he'll outgrow. Leah did yours outgrow it too?

Yeah we're still on for discovery on the 20th. Leah do you want me to bring anything this friday?

BRmama, Andrew outgrew the constipation when we stopped supplementing with formula. We also had to be careful not to give him things like bananas and apple sauce for a while, and he was also doing daily prune juice for a while as well. Luckily it was never so bad that he had to be medicated, but it was like a daily thing trying to get him to poop. Poor kid.

Jane tried some cheese the other day and went bonkers for it. It's the first food she's tried that she was really excited about. She was stopped up for 2 days, which is really unusual for her. We just did no dairy in my diet, gave her some beans and some peas, and she's doing just fine now.

Do you know about which foods to give/not give for constipation? I'm sure the doc talked to you about it.

Anywho, yeah, we'll have snacks. Should be fun!

PMing you directions, BRmama.

Hey sactoMommy I got your directions. Anyway the dr. said to give him all fruits that start with the letter p especially prunes. and to avoid like you said apple sauce and bananas and rice cereal. Well since I don't want him on these meds for too long, after his formula finishes I'm going to try goat's milk because we've seriously tried all the formulas out there and none seemed to help. His regular dr. (chiropractor) okayed it as long as I supplement him with vits.

That's so cute that she liked cheese. For Landon it was yogurt. He does okay as long as I mix his med in it but at first he made a weird face like "what's that" but now he loves it. I'm thinking cheese next but we'll see. I need to monitor all his food intake to make sure they're not causing his constipation.
Anyway can't wait till Friday.

Yeah, besides the yogurt, dairy is a big stopper upper.

We put some prune juice in with the formula for a while, and that seemed to help, but we had AWESOME success with flax seed oil. Have you thought about having donated milk? It seems like 9mo would be a little early to stop doing something other than BM or formula. Just a thought.

Also, Brie is welcome to come if you want to invite her.
I never thought about flax seed oil but now I'll have to give it a try. I am willing to try anything at this point...lol. His regular ped who is also a chiro suggested changing to goat's milk by introducing it slowly. Supposedly she says it is the closest to bm.

I'll call Brie tomorrow to see if she wants to come

So are we at the Discovery Museum this week? I'm not really up for going alone, so I'm going to call my MIL to come with us in case we end up being the only ones there, so if you decide to come, you'll get to meet her (she's really nice).

OR, someone else could host. Doesn't matter to me.
I really, really want to be there. I am going to say 90% we will be there, I am just worried about looking like an ogre from my mouth surgery. But I will try really hard because the Discovery Museum is way cool and let's face it, I want to shop a bit at the Gateway afterward

I'll see if Kayla wants to come as well. Maybe I'll have her drive in case I am not supposed to. Can we aim for 11 or is that too late? 10:30 is early for us to be places... Toby and I are not morning people which is why we have trouble getting to playgroup a lot, sorry
post #88 of 137
Okay, I still have to check with MIL but it looks like we can make it at 11 AM, slightly early or late, depending on DD's nap.

I sure hope this works out. Andrew has been a beast in public lately.

Hey guys bad news. We can't make it tomorrow . I wanted to go with my son, but I just found out a few days ago that my brother is coming up from vegas to take care of some business here and I have to pick him up from the airport and lend him my car. I'll take a raincheck, maybe we can go back there another time. Next week we'll be out of town for Thanksgiving till the
29th. So Dec 4th which is a Friday I'd like to host it here at my house.

Sactomommy since I started Landon on flaxseed meal he's been doing so much better. Thanks for the tip, and it was fun seeing our babies reaction at your house, your kids are so cute.

Anyway last night we had a rough night and I noticed today that Landon's top left tooth is coming out . But so far no fever or runny nose thankgoodness.
No worries. Sorry you can't make it BRMama. And if it's too much for Andrew we can always leave, it's ok. Toby's been a kind of buttmonkey lately too. I do still plan on being there but don't make fun of the ginormous bruise I am likely to have in the morning.

Kayla can't make it because she's getting Adrianna's first pictures done tomorrow

But I am excited. Toby had so much fun last time we went. I'll send an email down to the crunchy mommies playgroup in Provo to see if any of them want to join us. I meant to do it earlier this week but I spaced it. May work, may not. Oh wells!

We'll see you around 11 Leah. Does your phone get texts, because I don't know if I can talk on one yet.

(Wow this is my 900th post! I never thought when I started on this message board I would ever get that high!!)
Yeah, Kris, you can text me. We're going to go. Andrew has been a total wreck all week and has not slept at all, but we're going. I HAVE to get out of the house. I just may not be able to stay that long.

I think one of my wisdom teeth is impacted (which is sad because I thought I was going to be able to keep them). Do you recommend your dentist? I need to see someone fast before my face blows up.

BRmama, I'm glad the flaxseed helped. It always worked for Andrew!
Argh I couldn't get on my computer to get your phone number, I hope you got Nate's email. he said he would email you for me. My lip is swollen so much I look like a duck and HOLY HANNIBAL it hurts! Clearly the anesthesia was not worn off much at all when I went to bed last night cos i woke up and rubbed my nose and almost fainted. Yuck!

Anyway I am really bummed we missed it. I was thinking though that maybe after the holidays we can try doing an activity every month like going to the zoo or the museum or Thanksgiving Point etc etc. That way it wouldn't get a too expensive/weekly thing, and the rest of the weeks we could still just host playgroups at our house. Speaking of, I think we should not have one this week because of the holiday. But I am up for hosting the first Friday in December.

Leah do you need a dentist or an oral surgeon? I definitely recommend my oral surgeon but I have only seen our dentist once. The oral surgeon's name is Dr. Richard Flint and his office is in the complex behind Smiths, over on like 124500 S. It's the same complex Willow Creek pediatrics is. My dentist is Dr. Parker and he is also in the same complex. I really liked him, but he only did the cleaning part so I haven't had much experience with him.
Thanks for the info, Krisis. I'm sooooo not wanting to go to the dentist. We had one in CA that I loved, and I'm sure someone new just isn't going to be the same. But do I have to start with the dentist, or can I go right to the oral surgeon for this? I think the dentist needs to give the okay for the surgery, right? Or at least say that that's what wrong and not somehting else?

Anywho, we got your email, and we decided not to go. My ILs came and took Andrew to the dinosaur museum and gave me a break while Jane sleeps. I am just dying here. Andrew is cycling back up through the sensory stuff and it is just meltdown after meltdown after meltdown. I have not been a very gentle mommy the last few days. I'm actually kinda glad that it didn't work out, because I think I would have last through one fit of him wanting to destroy something at the museum before I snapped and just dragged us all home.

Yeah, no group this Friday because of the holiday. I agree that a monthly activity and weekly stuff at people's houses would be good. Would a different day/time work better for everyone? Is 10:30 too early?

Hi mamas! I am moving to SLC in a few weeks and I'd love to meet you all. Are there any mamas with older kids? My dd is 4.5, but we are expecting twins via a surrogate mother this spring.

Does anyone have a link to the Discovery Museum? I'd love to check it out.
Hi, KailasMommy! I know there were some older kids in the group when this thread first started up, but it's mostly been me (2.5yo DS and 9mo DD), BRmama (10mo DS?), and Krisis (23mo DS) for a while now. You are still welcome to join us though.

Congrats on your new arrivals!

What are we doing this week, ladies? I am still coming to terms with the fact that DH is at work today and I'm on my own, since he was home for four days for the holiday! Yikes! I'd be up for something low key, if anyone else is interested. Maybe an indoor playplace?
KailasMommy welcome, and congratulations on the new arrivals! My son is technically 10 months. He'll be on the seventh of Dec. You're more then welcome to join us. I'll see if I can find a link to the Discovery later, it's a very fun place for kids!

I can host this friday or we can meet at some indoor place, I don't care (I too would be up for something lowkey). I agree we should go somewhere fun once a month. Might be a little hard during the winter though (hate driving in the snow ). I think friday at 11:00 is fine for us (I think Kris wanted at this time)? Anyway, I'm sure there's a fun indoor place we can go to but I can't think straight today. I'm too tired from traveling. I need a vacation from the vacation...lol.

Well hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving!!!
Thanks guys! I would love to join you in January, if you don't mind. I am going to have to get used to the winter driving thing fast - we are moving back to the mainland after 6 years in Hawaii.
Anyone up for the mall again? We can't do any later than 11, and I will for sure bring the stroller this time so I can hog tie Andrew and haul him out of there if we have to leave in a hurry.

KailasMommy - Hawaii?!?! Can we just trade places? We'll be glad to meet you in January.
OH HAWAII, my favoritest. I want to live there, but I don't think I could leave my grandma, I love her too much!

The mall sounds awesome. 11 is great, or 10:30 if we muuuust I can also play on Wednesday during the day if anyone wants to get together. I think we are also free on Thursday. Le shrug.
Ohhhh Hawaii!!! I absolutely love there. My husband lived there, he went to BYUH. I've been there once and it was enough for me to say I want to live there someday! Anyway, we'd love to have you come join our playgroup in January.

The mall sounds great for us too! Are we meeting in the same place as last time? I'm okay to meet at 11:00 or 10:30. Today my dh might come to eat lunch with us (*fingers crossed*) because we need to install the carpet in the other apt before he goes out of town this weekend.
