Wisdom Teeth

In February of '08, I was given an x-ray with a referral to an oral surgeon and told that my wisdom teeth were growing in at a slant and needed to be removed.

I, my stubborn self, decided that God / Mother Nature created my teeth the way they were and I was not going to get them removed unless absolutely necessary. (Plus, I got pregnant 6 weeks or so after that.)

Well, here I am now, suffering from semi-severe throbbing headaches that radiate from the back of my neck to my eyeballs. I thought I was just sick at first (I had cold sweats a few days ago), but it has become apparent that this pain may be caused from the pressure of this wisdom tooth that is currently coming through.

What can I expect when I get my wisdom teeth removed?

What about breastfeeding? (I'm not fond of the pump and dump idea!!! Not for 24+ hours!)

How much will this cost me? (My insurance, which is MetLife Dental, covers 80% after a $150 deductible.)

I have no idea about the cost, though the dentist's office should be able to give you a solid figure.

My two cents is to get a dentist that will not put you under. All you need is a localized pain killer. They always go overboard with it. With a local you will feel the sensation of them being pulled but not the pain. Mine were done very quickly. You could go to Kellymom and check out the information on drugs.

Best of luck!

It's totally fine to breastfeed after getting wisdom teeth removed, even the pain meds you get afterwards should be fine.
