Sposie addict

Thread Starter
I think I'm addicted to disposable diapers; its like trying to quit smoking or something for me. I recently purchased cloth and have been using irregularly. I have to mentally restrain myself from using a disposable instead each diaper change.

Putting CDs on seems to take me forever and I don't feel confident in their ability. I always end up using sposies at night, when we're going out for any length of time, etc... I ran out of them, which would have been perfect as the push to make myself use cloth, but instead went and bought more! Maybe I do need to go cold turkey, if I had no other choice I might stick with it better...

Help me break my awful habit!

I would just set parameters that you're comfortable with and not worry about it. I don't use cloth at night because cloth diapers are meant to be changed as soon as they get wet or soiled and I refuse to get up in the night to do that. I don't use them during travel because it's just not practical. Same for long outings. I also opted for disposibles over cloth during the first three weeks post partum. I was too tired and weak to deal with changing and washing cloth diapers during that period. No regrets here.

I totally understand. We had to use disposables for two months (we were living out of one suitcase for that time & I couldn't justify half of that being cd's) & it became habit.

If it helps at all - every cd is one less disposable in the landfill.

What is it about the cd that is a block for you? If it's just the putting on that does become faster as you get more proficient. Or is it something else? Is there another way you can set up your diaper changing area to make the cd easier?

just wanted to add, what kind of cloth diapers are you using? I didn't like using prefolds or fitteds much but pockets and all-in-ones work just fine. Maybe you just need a different brand.

I also use disposables at night, long outings, as well as when I take the kids somewhere like the Y where they may have to be changed by someone else. As lifeguard said: each time I use cloth, it's one less disposable in the trash. I may not ever give up disposables at night, but I can do my part. I found that I like pocket diapers the best.

Every step helps. Each time you use a cloth diaper, it saves money from a sposie you would have used. Maybe it's the type of cloth you're using? We're using AIOs and pockets, which are just as easy to put on as sposies.

I vote cold turkey I started CDing with my 1st from as soon as we got home so I don't know any better. Its really a blissful ignorance

ETA: I use a thirstie AIO stuffed or a fuzzybunz stuffed with a prefold for over night. I have had one leak and I'm blaming the diaper. I bought it used and I think it desperately needed stripped.

I've had this issue too. For me, it's like quitting junk food; the answer is "don't buy it". If I don't have disposables on hand, I don't use them. And as for overnights/etc, my dd wears a motherease sandy and a wool cover all night long, every night. It has NEVER caused a rash or any other problem. I actually find it quite impressive how it can be soaking wet by morning and yet cause no problem. Meanwhile, I suspect that a disposable diaper holding the same amount of urine would be leaching all kinds of toxic crap all over my baby's skin.

I guess I'm with kriket. I suggest cold turkey!
