How about some cloth or wool balls for the almost 1 yr old?The 1 yr old twins I take care of love balls.And what about a little cloth book?Or silly little monster dolls?I made dolls that were just stuffed stars with a little hole cut out for the face.Those were pretty popular.A hooded towel is easy and fun to make.Bean bags and something to put them in?I saw some once that were circles and each one had a different funny face on it.

I'm still totally stumped on my husband too.UHG!

That's sad.There are a few people on my list who most likely do not appreciate the effort I make.And I flip flop on how I think about dealing with it.On one side I think I shouldn't bother and I should just go get them some crap but then I think no,I'm not giving in to the commercialism and the crap I buy won't be a better gift.This year the decision is pretty much made for me because I have no money but I do have lots of supplies.Plus I think it's a really good way to teach my daughter about being thoughtful.

Yup! Same goes here. I have a butt load of supplies sitting around, no $ and a couple months to get things done. Those unappreciated types are getting handmade gifts or nothing And you are so right. It teaches my littles so much and we really enjoy making things for family. Im sure Ill find some tutorial that will be perfect for them. I just have to look

I just got two bean bag chairs for my sister's classroom from the Oak Park freecycle and my sister got one from the Chicago craig's list for $7.Maybe there will be more?Even if they weren't the style you were looking for you could use their insides for the cover you make.

Are you going to make the calendars or are you going to use Wallgreens or snapfish or something like that?I've used the online places in the past for my MIL but I was thinking about just making one myself this year.Although she's one of the"non-appreciaters".

I haven't read the thread yet but this is my list so far;

boxers out of old t-shirts for dh, he loved the ones I made last year.
dd1 is going to use porcelaine paint to decorate a mug for dh

so i need something for dd1 (3.5) to make for dd2 (1.5) and something for dd2 to make for her dad and sister.

also need to come up with something to make for the kids. the oldest likes dinosaurs and reading and the youngest like singing and music.

I can sew. I'm teaching myself crochet right now and working on a scarf for myself. I can kinda knit but have never made anything.

So I didn't start knitting..but we did go apple picking to make some apple sauce to jar which I'm thinking will be gifts for dh's family.

I cut apart and old comforter that was stained ripped and falling apart, got the useable stuffing out and took a used sheet set that we we're given that doesn't fit any of our beds and I;'m using the stuffing for ds's thomas stocking and the sheets as the lining inside the stocking..I cut out all the pieces and they are all pinned together...I'm hoping that between the other sheet/comforter that I'llhave enough to do two panels of growth charts that I have for the kids as well.

The first batch of applesauce is already gone! Dh and ds had french toast COVERED in it...I can't taste or smell much(stupid cold) so I haven't tried it...I got a mixture of macs and honey crisp...im using mostly macs and a couple honey crisp(mostly b/c i LOVE honeycrisp and want to keep them all for myself!!)

I got ds's thomas stocking pieces together now im hand stitching around thomas/the tree ect then I'll machine it together..i could usethe macine to do the detailing but im not that smooth with a machine!

What about dd1 making a batch of playdough for dd2?Or a drawing in a decorated frame?

What about a special bag for bringing to the library for dd1?You could decorate it with a dinosaur.

THREE months to go!! Oh my goodness!

I've been working on f-i-l's socks! Finally got them on the needles and moving! I've been pricing cheap wooden frames and I'm going to get ds to paint them and put the family picture into them for a lot of presents so I've cut down a bit of my list.

DD IS FIGURED OUT!! F-I-L is an amazing woodworker and is going to make dd a pull toy, since she'll be a year then it's perfect. He's going to use lineseed oil to "varnish" it. SUPER EXCITED! I'm going to paint wooden letters spelling her name for her door, ds has this and is asking why she doesn't. And a waldorf inspired doll.

Dh is still so up in the air...I'm thinking just a pretty good stocking and a pair of knitted socks(if I get to them!)

M-I-L I have NO idea..still hoping DH will record for her. ESPECIALLY since my current boss/dh's former boss offered him the recording studio free of charge whenever he wanted! Then her and F-I-L will get a framed pic of us as their combined gift.

I hope your husband takes advantage of the free studio time.It's such a lovely idea.

Oh!That just reminded me.I can add the cd that my daughter got to record on(just a tiny little bit at the end.But still.)to my mom's gift.She would probably like the cd anyways.

I finally came up with an idea for my MIL.I'm going to make her a quilted tote bag.She has a weekend house so I think she might even use it to bring stuff back and forth.She has all these shirts with bird houses on them so I'll put a bird house on the bag(I think).

And my husband.He makes my head swirl.I have one idea but I have no idea how I would make it happen.I want to make him a quilt with an outline of the city we're from on in it.But I don't know how I would get the outline onto the quilt.Or I guess I mean I don't know how I would get the shape cut out.We don't have a printer and I'm not very good at free hand.Hmmm?Plus he's around a lot right now.

More like a map but without all the streets.That still doesn't make sense does it?I think I want it to be like if you were looking at a map that was all colored in.So that it is the shape of the city but a bit abstract.

i made alot of the kids gifts last year, but not really the adults. i'd like to add some more grown-up gifts this year, but don't know if i'll have enough time
dh doesn't really like the idea of me making the stuff, especially for the kids, but WHATEVER!! i'm not going to make as much stuff, so that there is room for store-bought nonsense. anyway, better get off mdc and get a move on!!
