Every year in south africa there is a circumcision season. Every year (at least) hundreds of boys die for no reason, because of a tradition that could be totally avoided.
Although there are is an attempt by locals to stop this tradition, or at least make it so there are no deaths, local laws, and penalties have not done enough. Unlike with FGM, no international group is in there trying to protect these children.
Is sad, because we can predict the numbers each year, even before the boys die. But because its lesser known as a problem, and shielded by the beliefs/myths that circ is good, and in place like Africa could prevent AIDS, problems like this go unnoticed.
