When are you making your 1st apt?

I waited until I was 12 weeks to make my first midwife apt. with my dd, and it seemed to be okay. But, I am feeling like I will probably set up an apt. sooner this time just to check in and get all the stats written down and all. I am just over 5 weeks now.
I guess on some level it still doesn't feel real (despite the sick feeling I have).
Thanks!

I only had a few prenatals last time, but my first was at 24 weeks. (which was new for me since with DD we started at 6 weeks) This time I'm UP'ing if all goes well, and I'm already doing a weekly "assessment", mostly for fun. I'll have an u/s around 32 weeks though.

Our midwives book fast here too, so I have already called mine. My first appointment isn't until mid-September though.

I'm going to wait a while. The one thing about my previous pregnancies I didn't like was how out of control medicalized they got. I have various medical issues which make me technically high risk, but it got so out of hand. I'm going to try to take more control this time and tone down the hyper testing thing... a barrage of blood tests, scans, monitoring, etc. every month made me feel more as if I was "sick" than pregnant, and as if it was all going to go wrong all the time. This is my 4th child and I doubt I'll get to have a 5th, so I want to make this last one a good experience. I'm going to have only the intervention I think is actually necessary.

Hm, think I wandered ot, but anyway, I'll wait a month or so before I start the whole medical circus off.

Right now I'm planning on waiting till around 12 weeks. Even if I have a midwife-attended hb, the hb midwives here don't do prenatal care, just come for the birth, and prenatals will be at the public health clinic, which is good but somewhat ultrasound-happy (they use it as a diagnostic tool for pregnancy itself, for example ). Also, I read that most miscarriages occur between 7 and 12 weeks so I don't want to officialize the pregnancy/have any stress on my cervix/womb/baby until after 12 weeks (I had a miscarriage at 7 weeks in May).

I plan to call her today. She will not see you until 12 weeks, I just don't want to take the chance that she will be booked. She was my midwife with both of my DC and I love her

For a long time, she was the only hb midwife in town...now there is another one, but she doesn't have hospital privilages in case I needed to transfer and my regular mw does (I am 42 and concerned, )

We're meeting with several midwives this week in order to choose whom to use. Our first "real" appointment won't be until closer to 12 weeks, when there's a chance to hear the heartbeat.

I will be seeing my midwife next week sometime, but only because my mom and I are going up to Amish Country, and we always visit my midwife when we go. My midwife is the resident midwife in an amish birth center (though she is not actually amish), and we just love her so much that we can't be that close in priximity to her without a visit

I probably will only have her try to palpate my uterus to see if she can get a feel for the size (mainly to rule out my dd's insistence that I am having twins).

I called my midwife last week and she wanted to see me at 8-10 weeks. I have an appt for when I am 8 weeks

I will be doing CVS @ 12 weeks so I need to make sure I get the referral for that appt. in time.

My midwives last time made the first appointment for 8 weeks. We're using a different midwife this time for a homebirth and she said to call as soon as I got a BFP, and she scheduled my first one for 6 weeks! I go on the 16th.

We have our interview on the 25th (I'll be just over 8wks) and then we'll probably start having regular appts on week 12. The hb mw I'm using books up SUPER fast so I had to call as soon as I got a BFP.

Our prenatal care w/ds was all over the place b/c of changing providers and not being satisfied with the way things were going with checkups. We went 24 weeks in the middle of the pregnancy with no prenatal appointments and we were really more at peace than when we went once a month. That said, I *really* like the provider that we ended up with and plan to use him again, so I'll probably call him today and try and get an appointment for late August. He's really busy so I may not be able to get one before then anyway. That would put me at about 12 weeks.

I am not sure when I will see a dr. I am really wanting a homebirth this time or atleast a VBAC and it seems all the dr's near me deliver at hospitals that have banned VBAC's ... I am not even sure I will go to the dr. until my second trimester I feel great and I am taking prenatals and looking after myself I am just not ready to hear that I have to have another c-section just b/c I did with DS ( he had hydrocephalus so his head was too large too pass through my birth canal -- he got stuck at his ears)

My 1st appt is next week. I will be 5 weeks.
My midwife only takes on 2 mamas per month, so I'm glad I called when I did.

I have my first appointment with a new midwife two weeks from today, I'll be 7 weeks. I'm hoping for an early ultrasound, after quite a few very early losses and one at almost 11 weeks, it would be incredibly reassuring to see a heartbeat.

The practice I go to likes to see you between 8 and 10 weeks. But since I had a m/c earlier this year, they are seeing me sooner, this week, at 6w3d.

SuzyLee, I'm also leaning towards a cvs, so I'll need to schedule that soon too.

What's a cvs?

CVS (chorionic villus sampling) is a test where they use a needle (either through the cervix or through the abdomen) to take a sample of the chorionic villi to evaluate for chromosome disorders. It's done around 10-12 weeks. Here is some more info on about.com: cvs

Thank You! I've heard of this, but didn't know what it was called.
