I have SENSITIVE and somewhat flaky skin and I want to make my own exfoliating scrub. This would be for my face. If anyone has a recipe that is working for you, i'd love to get it! Thanks!!

You could try the oil cleansing method. Might work well for you.

One recipe that I love is ground raw almonds in honey. I also put some EO in as well - lavender and geranium.

thanks, i have been trying the OCM for about a week, and I like it. But it's not really addressing the flaky skin. I still feel like I need some sort of exfoliation. I will try the ground raw almonds in honey. How often do you use it? thanks!

You can use baking soda for some occasional gentle exfoliation. Make a paste with the baking soda and very gently rub onto face, small areas at a time. Rinse.

I also have sensitive skin and I use brown sugar and honey. Just mix the two together in the palm of your hand and gently rub on your face. I also have a small spray bottle of aloe vera gel that I spritz on my face after so that I don't have to rub anything else on my skin, it helps sooth and moisturize.

i would
grind up some oatmeal say about a quarter of a cup in a blender or coffee grinder used only for herbs, put in a nonreactive bowl add some honey, a couple of tablespoons and some calming essential oils like chamomile. and i would refridgerate to keep it longer.

Here's a recipe I got off a great thread on TBW.

3oz honey
4oz finely ground almonds
2 oz apple cider vinegar and/or witch hazel
2oz water
6 drops lavender eo

The vinegar does give it quite a smell - I use about half witch hazel. And I kinda like the smell now!

Baking soda may be very irritating if your skin is sensitive.

I have some insanely expensive boutique face scrub from Hawaii (from a family member who works for the company) and it is AMAZING. You can make it in the kitchen for a lot less than $30 per tiny jar! It contains various oils, honey, sea salt, raw sugar and fragrance oils. I'd start with equal parts oil-of-choice & honey, then add sea salt or raw sugar or both until you like the consistency, then add whatever essential oil you want your face to smell like.

i make a super simple face scrub. i have extremely sensitive skin. this works great! a really good scrub is the lemongrass one by Suki. yum.

1 cup organic sugar

fresh lemon juice (bottled if you're lazy or broke) to make a thick, moist paste

5-20 drops eo, i like lavender on my face. calming and soothing.

I like sugar and honey mixed together.

But, my absolutely favorite is ground oats. There was a thread on there quite a while ago about cleansing with oat flour. I tried it and I LOVE it. I too have very sensitive skin and the oats are so very soothing. I just make my own by grinding oatmeal into a powder. Mix with a little water or honey or yogurt or whatever liquid you like. It works wonders and makes my skin so soft.

I love the suki scrub! But it's so darn expensive that I get it very rarely. I'm going to try your recipe, it sounds great!

My skin is sensitive and I have used the following recipe twice now. It feels sooo good on and my face feels as soft as a baby's bottom afterwards, to quote my friends this weekend.

ripe avocado
oatmeal
honey

I used half an avocado, 1 tablespoon honey, and enough ground oatmeal to see it in the mix. Last time, DH actually made it for me and he used more honey, less avocado, and did not grind the oatmeal. I was using it as part of a Halloween costume and was very pleasantly surprised by the effects!!!

Next time, I would use 1/4 avocado, 2-3 tablespoons honey, and enough ground oatmeal to see in the mix. Grinding the oatmeal keeps the "goo" on my face longer (versus falling off in chunks). I got two uses from this last batch and would prefer to just have one, so that's why I would halve the avocado. I only had a tablespoon of honey this time (little packet for travel) and I liked DH's mixture better with more honey.

The results were super soft, clear skin both times! My skin feels properly moisturized, too.
