Pregnancy & dental cleaning? absolutely necessary?

I am 21wks pregnant. I have a dental appointment scheduled a month from now. I've read that dental cleanings are imperative for pregnant women, though I'm concerned about what's in the products they use. Do I really need that in my body while I'm pregnant? The other thing is my teeth are in really good shape. Not to gloat but I have no cavities and every time I go to the dentist they marvel at how healthy my mouth is (I'm sort of fastidious about it). I'd rather put it off until after my baby is born.

Thoughts?

Thanks a bunch!

I don't go to the dentist while pregnant. I did once for just a cleaning and the stess was so bad, I decided to never go again while preg. I see no real honest reason to go anyway, and yes there is always the risk of too much flouride or whatever. Especially with your good teeth, I see no reason to go. That's just me though.

My hygenist doesn't use anything that is ingested and really doesn't use a whole lot of 'product'. She scrapes and flosses all my teeth/gums and then polishes them. The polishing actually isn't necessary and can be done with a paste or a baking soda/water 'air polishing' system. I have a dental appointment in a month and am going to it as planned.
