Do Swaddlebees LEAK or is it me??

please help. i'm about ready to give up. i'm new to cloth diapers. a friend of mine turned me onto this and i'm so enthusiastic about cloth but i'm having only bad luck.

is it me, or do swaddlebees AIO leak like crazy!!!???

i bought 6 from the outlet store a month ago when they were having a sale. they say it's the same as the regular AIO but student made, or something like that. i bought charlie's soap, i'm using minimal or no avalon organic diaper creme. i washed them twice prior to using.

my DD pees right thru them. they leak all on the sides. i'm already doing a load of laundry and i've changed her 3 times already and it's only 10am!!

i'm sure someone has posted this already so you can also refer me to previous posts. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?? I want these to work, I don't want to give up, but my disposables are SO tempting me right now.

Please advise!

Have you washed them? You need to wash them 4-6 times before they start to absorb anything at all really.
And honestly, if your DD is a heavy wetter you are gonna have to stuff them with a doubler, they are great diapers but dont hold alot!
From their site:
The diapers need to be pre-washed at least once before use. Three to four times, and dried in between, is preferable. This causes the cotton fibers of the top layer to fluff up and become more absorbent. You may experience leaking if the diaper has not been pre-washed sufficiently.

They're pocket diapers, you do have an absorbent pad inside them right? If you don't have any, flat diapers folded up work great for that and are available at stores. I found those would leak if DS peed multiple times in them and I didn't notice the first, but they did fine otherwise.

look inside and see if there is an insert sewn in or not!! swaddlebees makes ab AIO AND a pcoket and the pocket diaper doesnt come with an insert!

there is an insert sewn in. but i bought some extra insert pads that i can add to it since maybe they're not absorbing enough. i just don't get it. i have been trying for a few weeks now. i only washed them 2xe before i started using them. i know the website says multiple times. so, they get soiled and i wash them. it seems now they should be soft enough. i guess i'll try them with the extra pad insert. i'm just so frustrated. i''ll go to pick her up and she's wet, whatever she was sitting/laying on is wet, her onsie is wet! ugh!

I haven't seen the AIOs, but when I used the old-style pocket Swaddlebees, the crotch was very narrow on them, and they simply didn't have the capacity of other diapers. I gave up on them. Are these very trim like that older style (from about 2-3 years ago?).
Are you using the right size?
Because of the trimness, sometimes swaddlebees look like they fit before they actually do... Make sure you have no gaps at the legs.

You also generally have to change your diaper changing frequency. If you used to be able to go 4 hours between changes with disposables, you will likely half that.

Yes, they leak. :

i'm using the medium size. my DD is almost 4 months old. they're pretty snug around the waist and i don't want it to be too tight there. it seems snug around the legs as well. i'm snapping them on the tightest they can be.

i don't know the older swaddlebees, but these don't to have too narrow a crotch/seam.

when i just pour water on them (like in those huggies commericals) they bead up in places, mostly along the sides, but also absorb, but very slowly.

i usually change her every 2 hours. but i know it's not that she's peeing a few times in them before i change her because i'll put one on, and literally 20 min later it's leaked. so, it's after only one pee.

do you think if i wash them a few more times they'll get softer and more absorbant?

thanks for your advice. you're giving me the courage to keep trying different things.

fullmetalmom, thanks for being so honest! it's not just me!!

Leaked on my kid. I don't think they work well for skinny-legged babes.

if the water didn't soak in immediately then you likely have some repelling happening. Try running them through a couple hot washes with no soap and some vinegar in the rinse. I love them. Although I did find they wicked with onesies because they were higher cut on the thighs so the onsie went below the diaper if ykwim?

I found nothing but leaks with swaddlebees EcoNappi AIO as well. It came as part of a sampler pack and I could never get it to stop leaking out sides, regardless to how I washed. Switched to bum genius AIO organic and haven't had any problems since. SOOOO much nicer of a diaper and they are one-size too.

I am so sorry you are having issues with leaking! There is nothing worse than having a pricey stash that doesn't work for you!!!!
Yes they do leak!!!!

Their fitteds are amazing, but the AIOs leak like crazy!
I have their AIOs and did find that they needed quite a bit of breaking in. One WAHM that I purchased from warned me of this, as well. Wash on hot with a tiny bit of detergent and dry in between, at least 6 times. If you use an extra insert for absorption, you may be able to use them (changing frequently) between washes.

You mentioned that you use diaper crm, I have read everywhere that you can't use any kind of diaper crm bc it makes the cloth repel, therefore leaks. Don't know if that is your problem but it might be worth a try to skip the crm.

an update.

i washed them twice through with dish soap, hot water, exrtra rinses and all. then once again in a regular wash. now they work much better. it was most definitely the diaper creme. i was using avalon organics which says is diaper friendly but that was not so true. so the diaper creme was the problem. but i really have to be on top of them. too bad, since i'm a newbie at CD and these AIO's were my introduction, so i'm not really off to a great start.

do you think the more they are washed, the better they'll work? then i have hope!!

Diaper cremes can cause major repelling problems.

I have been using Swaddlebees very successfully for over a year and I've never had leaking problems even slightly. I love them. I will say that my experience with cloth in general is that you have to change diapers constantly because otherwise the kidlet will get a diaper rash. Before my daughter was six months old we went through 12-16 diapers a day and it skewed to peeing more in the early part of the day. That's just how many diapers it takes. Now at almost 14 months we only need to change her like 6 or so times a day (we part time EC).

So glad you found a solution! Yes, the more times they're washed (up to a point), they better they'll work.

Enjoy!
