Why Dawn?

Can anyone tell me why Dawn dishsoap is used for stripping dipes? DH bought the wrong brand, and I'm wondering if I should buy a bottle of Dawn just for my dipes or if I can use another brand? Thanks!

It would depend on what is in the other brand I guess. The reason plain ol Dawn is used, is because of it's grease-fighting abilities.

I think with dawn the proof is in the pudding. Look at what a small drop doe sto a sink of greasy dishes or the poor birds that involved with oil spills. It is amazing how clean it get them.

A friend of mine told me to use Dawn as well. I figured there was a good reason, but I didn't feel like driving to the store. I only have costco brand dish soap here so I just stripped diapers with that. And now they absorb again, so I guess it worked. I washed them twice through with the dish soap, extra rinses, etc. But next time I'm at the store I might pick up a Dawn.
