Funny Article in "Time" on Placenta Pills

I thought this was hilarious... yet, I think this will probably get more Moms-to-be to investigate more natural cures to post-partum depression...and wisdom that we've lost from earlier years.

is that the one in connection with the video? the husband was a total misogynist. :

I found it entertaining if not a bit crude on the dad's part. It's something I'll definitely share with my family since they think I'm a nutcase anyway in regards to these type things...maybe they'll actually learn something!

My SIL showed this article to everyone she works with (at a hospital) and told them to make sure they hadn't just eaten because they may want to vomit upon hearing that women would consume their placenta. :

Gosh the husband was pretty snarky. I'm having mine done this time and while my husband is a little leary, he'd never be so disrespectful talking about it. I say, whatever helps me have a better pp this time, I'm doing it.

Joel Stein makes me sad. First not standing up to keep his son intact and now this. Ugh!

What a disappointment. I'm glad someone made an effort to bring this to light, but I wish it was done in a more positive tone. I know it isn't for everyone, but it just causes more negative reaction to those of us that choose to reap the benefits of consuming placenta. Imagine anyone's reaction upon finding out I will be consuming my placenta after birth (raw in a smoothie immediately following). I am lucky to have such a supportive and kind husband - he'll be the one preparing the raw placenta smoothie for me. I'm glad he's nothing like the guy who wrote this article.

I couldn't watch the whole video. I understand the Dad being a bit put off at first, but goodness.
If I was the "placenta lady", I would have requested him to not be there while I prepared it.
When I brought this up to my husband, at first he was surprised and made a couple jokes, but nothing like this guy. Now my DH is cool with me having placenta smoothies and knows that it will be important for me PP, so the jokes have subsided.

I would be hurt if my partner made fun of me this way... or was so sarcastic about something that was important to me.

My ex-DH prepared my placenta last time. He is a man who throws up uncontrollably if he sees someone get a nosebleed and passes out if he has blood drawn. He knew it was important to me (particularly because of my bleeding tendencies) and important to my health. He was 100% supportive and defended me and my choice to friends and family. I cleaned the placenta (because I wanted to done a particular way) and then he cut it up and made smoothies for me. They were SOOOOOO good!

In fact, even though we are not together anymore, I am going to ask him if he would be willing to prepare smoothies for me again this time.

While I am glad that someone brought this issue into the public view I am disappointed that it was done in such a negative way. Humorous writing, yes... but a discouraging point of view.

DH has seen PPD up close in the family and was willing to do whatever it took to avoid it. He never blinked an eye.

I guess TETO b/c I don't understand why a woman wouldn't try this, or anything really, short of murder or mass mayhem, to avoid PPD. Even if it was just theoretical, or just a possibility.

Yes, and I feel like even if it doesn't help me the same as some women, it's for sure not going to hurt me. So, I may as well try it. It's a part of my body and the birthing process. Nothing gross about that.

I read this article awhile ago. I didn't eat my placenta last time, but wished I had. I will be eating my placenta this next time around. DH agrees its a wonderful idea.

Lol, he's just tryna be a comedian. I see him a lot on VH1 on those shows called "I love *insert subject matter here*" as a commentator alot. He's always tryna be extra funny and i think thas what he was trying to be in this video. Or it could have actually amused him, who knows.

I think he rocks for documenting this and i think it could change some women's minds from "EW, thas so incredibley nasty!" to "Hmmm, that doesnt seems so bad, i might try that."
