30 days for FS... when do they start counting?

Ok for those states that don't give them right away, and actually normally take the "month".

Do they start counting the day you sign and take in your application, the date that you have your "intake" appointment, or the date that you finally return all paperwork to your case manager?

Where do they start counting from for the "30 days"???

Well I just did mine and I did not have my Dh's last pay stub from May, so I withdrew my app for June. I had all of June's stubs and Dh's unemployment. So I am getting them for July and Aug. Depending on Dh's work schedule we may lose them for a month or 2 until our baby is born in Oct.

Anyway the 30days for me would have been the 30 days prior to June 29th. HTH.

Ok I am afraid that confused me.

Does anyone know what the supposed "law" says the 30 days starts?

They wanted the last 30 days which would have included May 29th and I didn't have that stub. If I had had that I would have been eligible for June, but since I didn't she asked if I wanted to either have them faxed or just withdraw the application for June(which seemed easier for me). I got the card 10 minutes later and it started working on the 30th of June. If I had had the paystub from the last week of May I would have been able to collect for June, but I just didn't feel like dealing, so I didn't.

There is a website for SNAP benefits which is what FS is now, maybe this can tell you. Here it is:

No I meant when they say it takes 30 days to get your fs benefits (the law)... what day do they start the 30 day countdown from? Most states do not give the card to you fully loaded the same week (that is really rare from what I hear). Most take a month+ to give you the benefits.

I didn't mean what paperwork/paystubs they wanted for XXX amount of time for eligibility.

It is ussually 30 days from when you get your paper work in. When I called they told me what I needed to bring in then I filled out the application turned in the info they asked for, then it was 30 days from that.

Oh now I am confused. In WA they didn't make me wait 30 days at all, I waited like 10 minutes, so I have no idea. I guess WA must be really good or something. I am thinking it would vary from state to state just like all those programs.

Just wanted to mention that many states are so overwhelmed right now, that the 30-day rule has flown out the window. Ct has the same rule.. and is running on 2.5-3 months from receipt of application. I've heard they are not alone in this right now- the dramatic increase in applicants is just making their workload unreal.

When I applied for food stamps, the application said plainly that my application would be approved/rejected within 30 days from the initial application. It also said that if I were approved, the food stamps would be given to me from the date of application (so if it took a month to be approved, I would get back-dated foodstamps for that month).

Neither were true...it took several months to be approved, and then I only got food stamps from the date of approval, not from the date of application. The reason given was something like "due to a delay in processing." Yeah.

Oh, I remember reading about that when it happened to you. Not fair..

In my state it means 30 days from the date your application (or filing form) is received in the office whether you have all required documentation or not. We are not usually running that far behind on new apps but sometimes it will take a month or so to get it together. The amount received for the initial month will vary based on when in the month you applied.
